Picked up a hook again

I actually did some crochet this afternoon  Shocked I picked up a hook and a ball of soft cotton and began to crochet a washcloth for myself which I 've been promising to do for weeks. The boys were out getting their hair cut with Mr Melody and I just sat by the radiator and crocheted.

I should have been doing some work on my assignment, but it was good to pick up a hook again and it's so much quicker than knitting! I just wish I could crochet patterns rather than go round in circles - and I was no better after the workshop last year!!

Well done Debs! It's always nice to rediscover a craft isn't it Smile

Practice and practice and eventually you'll get the hang of crocheting something other than a circle, honest! If i had a webcam i'd give you a lesson Wink Laughing

Well you can see the finished item in the Look What I Made section now! Making or doing something with a purpose is so much better than mindlessly doing something for the sake of though, isn't it? I really enjoyed making this and it's something I'll actually use!

Your washcloth looks really good Debs Very Happy

I like crocheting, it can be very useful indeed for doing nice edgings and stuff and I like making blankets and cushion covers, but I have to be in the right mood and it doesnt quite "hit the spot" for me like knitting does, if that makes any sense at all Laughing

Good for you. For those of you who might mnot know, Melody Y was at a crochet course in Stockport and was leading other CYarners astray. It was a GREAT day and I would love to go again Smile

For anyone who is interested in a Beginner pattern, there is a nice crochet cardi/jacket in this weeks Peoples Friend.  It says, its easy, suitable for beginners Very Happy   Its quite a nice jacket as well Very Happy

Is there? Hmmm might just have to get that from the station if they have it in Smiths  Wink I was only looking at my sparse amount of crochet pattern today thinking 'hmmm I could do that' iykwim?

I know what you mean about crochet not quite hitting the spot though Jobo - I'm a knitter through and through  Cool
KnittingLadybird

I have the peoples friends pattern ( I think they used king cole smooth??)

but debs...I got my hook out because you did and i've enjoyed myself today, it's nice not to knit all the time.

I'm crocheting too at the moment, doing a shrug from Drops design for DD, I like crochet as much as knitting but the patterns out there arent as inspiring. The drops pattern is quite sparse on instruction though, are they all like that?

I think you're right there Nevis - crochet patterns are not all that inspiring. Either that or they are too complicated for beginners and use really thin yarns  Shocked

Well I tried to learn how to crochet, but sitting next to CJ meant all we did was natter. Mind you she picked up a lot more than I did so she must be better at listening than I am Laughing

I find a great deal of pleasure in cross stitching if I'm not in the mood for knitting - it's nice to have an alternative sometimes isn't it,
