Pattern?Anyone recommend a good pattern for me to start with...think I may have a regia and an opal one knocking around somewhere...are these good ones for a sock-numpty?

Either the best to start with Jackie - very similar - the Regia is more flexible in terms of sizing
It is VERY fiddly to start with but just keep trying even tho you HATE it It settles down after the first 6 rows and the dpns don't wobble about so much Cast on all your stitches onto 1 dpn then divide equally between 3 when you start - don't try to cast on between the 3 dpns or you'll give up.

I cast my stitches onto straight needles, 2.75mm instead of 2.5mm, cos that gives me a more stretchy top.
good luck.

If its the first time you've used DPN's, do a few rows of rib on two needles to start with then when you divide onto the others, hold the two edges together with a safety pin until you've done a few rounds, the little seam at the top can be done with the tail you would have had to sew in anyway.
it makes the whole thing a bit more manageable and less wobbly(IMHO)

Yep, exactly what Catknit said. And I think the safety pin tip is excellent!!

always a popular one at my sock knitting workshops even with people who have made socks before. I sometimes do the whole rib on 2 needles if I'm feeling lazy
