That is beautiful, wonder how delicate it is as they are recomending not to use a swift and ballwinder.

Wow, that's stunning. I lvoe the purple colour especially. It'll probably be too thin for me to dare knit with it though and as for winding it by hand..... not sure if I have the patience althoug hmaybe it deserves a closer look...........

Hope you don't mind me adding to this thread - this yarn is really lovely and is about the same thickness as Rowan KSH. It does vary in thickness very slightly as it is hand spun.
We have suggested that it is wound by hand (as the traditional Orenburg knitters and spinners do) because of the twist and qualities of this hand spun yarn are different to something that has been machine spun (hope that makes sense). That said, it is really lovely stuff and I'm afraid I've just had to keep some of this for myself for one of the hexagonal shawls in VLT

It should be OK on one of my swifts, but I wouldnt use a ball winder as the tension spring can be a bit fierce for handspun. A nostepinne would be OK though. I have wound lace weight and gossamer weight merino on my swift and nostepinne with no trouble.

I don't blame you keeping some for yourself Gill. If Iran a shop like yours I'd want to keep it all for myself. Every time I dye yarn I want to keep it. NOrmally list it asap before the temptation to stick it in my stash box gets too much.
I've got one of Claire's swifts so should be okay. I'm so tempted but got too many lace projects on the go right now. But after my birthday later this month......... I may be tempted........

It's a hard job Anni - but someone's got to do it
Seriously though - these skeins look as though they have been wound on a small niddy noddy, so I doubt that they will fit comfortably on any swift without risk of hurting them. How we've suggested winding them is exactly how the women who spun this yarn recommended we did it - if it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for me!

how 'fluffy' is the yarn Gill? is it possible we could have a photo next to kidsilk haze starnd for strand.... it's just I don't like really fluffy yarns if it's only a slight fuzzy haze thats fine.....

How delicate is the yarn Gill? Is it likely to snap easily? I am sorely tempted by the green LOL
Oh, and it looks quite loosely spun and plied on the picture, is that because it is done by hand? Is there a recommended needle size to use?
As you can tell, temptation is winning!!! I read in the Orenburg Lace book that it takes a person 5 days to hand spin 90g of this yarn - amazing!!
Annie, if it is delicate, I would take Gills advice. I have used my swift for gossamer weight yarn from Heirloom Knitting but that was Merino/silk. If (when) I get some I will use my son, better not to risk it perhaps.
