Opinions needed for FCS shawlI need advice from my style guru's here
I'm making a FCS for mum's Christmas in Fyberspates Scrumptious DK (and it truly is scrumptious to work with ... not that I want to enable anyone ). I'm using the Moss shade and reckon I'll have enough to do a further repeat - but that will leave me with the scalloped edge and cast off to do
Do you reckon I should order another hank of the Moss, and hope it matches reasonably well - or go for a complete contrast and use the self coloured biscuit shade?
Here's the link for the colours http://www.laughinghens.com/knitting-wool-yarn.asp?yarnid=640
What do you think ??? And thanks for any guidance...

The ones that I have seen with a different colour edge look really good

Those are gorgeous colours I've done a contrast bind-off on my first FCS, due to running out of yarn, and I loved how it looked. I'm not really sure about doing the whole of the edging in a contrast though - I think it's one of those personal preference things, some people will love it

Just my own opinion, and due mostly to the fact that I LOVE that Moss colour, I would order another hank and then split the hank into two. Then you could do the last repeat(s) with three balls of yarn on the go (two + the original) changing the ball each row to give a smooth colour transition.
I've not tried it myself with DK on a shawl, but I did it all the way through on a 4ply one because I'd three very different-looking "same" hanks. I had a scary moment when I thought the changes of ball might have led to an edge that was too firm to block properly, but it all worked fine, though another time I'd make sure I kept my edge stitch a little bit looser.

On the other hand - why go for an extra repeat? You can always just add extra border rows then until you have to cast off. I regularly knit 10 border rows instead of 8, and this one ( ravelry link ) has a border with 18 rows and a contrasting bind off.
A skein of DK should have given you a reasonably sized FCS so you shouldn't NEED an extra repeat.
If you do go for a second skein, of course you'd then keep on going wouln't you, until it was time to knit the border and cast off again. So you'd end up with a larger shawl altogether. I used two skeins of Colinette DK recently for Franney's FCS, ( it has similar meterage to the DK you're using ) it's surprising how the pattern just eats up that second skein you know.

I knew I'd get great advice from the FCS guru's here !
I'm plumping for another skein of the Moss shade to finish off. Hopefully, there'll be enough left over to do a FC cowl. (Whoops, the pattern fell into my trolley )
Off to order now and can't wait to see how it looks after it's blocked.
Thanks all for your help
And, Joy, your linked FCS in Bonny is just glorious!
