OMG my jumper is ruined :-(

I recently finished my Gathered Pullover from IK and washed it today. I did it in Jaeger MM merino which I thought was machine washable but it really stretched in the wash even though I did it on a low temp with a gentle spin cycle Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad
Now it is only fit for an orang-utan Confused  Crying or Very sad

will I be able to frog it and reuse the yarn? do you think the yarn is useable?
terri

oh no Shocked
I wonder if you wash it again by hand it might go back Confused  I'm not sure tbh, but it might be worth a try Sad
I never spin any of my hand knitted stuff............just in case Confused

Oh goodness so sorry to hear that! Terri's suggestion definitely sounds worth a try.

I think I've read about putting handknits into a pillowcase (or maybe one of those zipped mesh bags) for spinning in the machine, I gues that limits their movement? TBH I tend to get a big towel and roll them up in that after handwashing, then stand on the roll to squeeze the water out!

Oh dear Lois Sad . I wonder if it's because it's knit at a loose guage Confused It's knit at an aran guage isn't it yet it's a dk yarn - which is exactly what the pattern says to do. Jaeger MM should be absolutely fine for normal machine washing Confused

I wonder if as terri says if you washed again it might pull back in - it's all I can think of. I know some people stick their jumpers in the tumble dryer if they come out too big Shocked but I don't think I'd ever risk doing that.

PS the yarn should be absolutely fine if you frog it - you'll just have to steam it or wet and hang up to get rid of the kinks.
Fi

Thats so annoying.

Must admit I always wash mine in a pillow case just in  case.

I never handwash anything, much to my mums amazement she used to get orders from me and my sis.

Oh no Sad  It must have taken you some time to make with 3 young ones.
carolinne

how frustrating ...hope it all works out ok
Auntie Noo

Well if there's a silver cloud - at least it stretched and didn't felt, so you have a chance of salvage or re-using the yarn.

Hope something works for you.
Glynis

Oh no! I hope that you are able to retrieve the situation.

Oh no!  I don't believe it, poor you.  I have quite a lot of the MM purely because it is supposed to be machine washable, I've not used it yet though and now I'm concerned  Confused   I was sure that some people on this forum have used the matchmaker and washed it successfully, or am I clutching at straws ?
loisamelia

Paula
I think it stretched so much because the pattern needed dk yarn to be knit at aran tension. I am sure if you knitted the yarn the way its supposed to be used it will be fine(well I am not sure really but I hope  Wink  Laughing )

I am now winding it back into balls Sad heyho!
modelwidow

Oh that is such a shame, after all that work.
