Non tickle sock yarn for sensitive little feet!Dear All
My four year old niece would like some more auntie socks but she says the last ones I made her from standard wool/nylon smooth sock yarn were too itchy. She doesn't have a wool allergy so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of a soft, smooth sock yarn suitable for a sensitive little princess.
The princess's staff are also keen that they are machine washable!
Thanks
Jane

What about a cotton mix or bamboo mix sock yarn? I haven't completed any socks in either of these mixes, but it feels lovely on the ball!
I know what you mean about sensitive little skins - my eight year old doesn't like mum's knitteds because he says they 'itch him'... he only like cotton against his skin.

Absolutely no idea - but that's a great post! - "The princess's staff" ! I'm thinking I've seen some bamboo sock yarn somewhere...... I might be back!

I can recommend the Lana Grossa cotton mix sock yarn, very soft and not at all itchy (and washes well)- nice to knit with too!

Hartmuth Yarns on eBay is always a good source for bamboo and cotton sock yarns - and sometimes the odd ball of silk mix can be found in pastel colourways
I bought some silk mix sock yarn from tem a little while ago in a pale pink colour - that feels ultra soft in the ball too.

It's not machine washable but Posh Emily is the softest, nicest feeling sock on.......I've not seen or felt anything softer, yet

I used tofutsies sock yarn, here and its machine washable, but a bit thinner than the likes of opal, its a cottony feel to it.

I would second Gilraen's recommendation of PY Emily. I have really sensitive feet, and just cant wear wool/nylon blends as they feel quite uncomfortable on my feet. The PY Emily however are soooooo soft and soooo nice to wear (hand wash only though). Skein Queen also does the same base yarn blend (lambswool/cashmere/angora).

I have the bfl/alpaca which is really soft, as is any pure merino or bfl yarns, it is the nylon that can make it harsher, but that makes it a lot stronger and machine washable.

I have the same problem, but find that BFL/nylon is great on my feet - really soft. Also like PY lucia, although that's not machine washable. And of course colinette jitterbug which is both machine and tumble driable.

I agree that PY Emily and Lucia are fab. I machine wash all my PY socks (on a 30 degree wool wash) and I've never had any problems.
