Nicest summer sock yarn? What is your personal favourite for cool summer socks? Patterned Opal type or hand-dyed it doesn't matter. Which would you recommend?

I had handknits on today - I can't remember what yarn it is but it's a cotton blend - and my feet were a bit too hot - but that might be my shoes too. It made me think I must knit some more cotton ones - and lacy I reckon, to let the air in! I don't like going barefoot - not at work anyway (well - I likebarefoot - but I don't like barefoot with shoes!)

You see I haven't any cottony stuff in the stash - I have some bamboo or n's MT - not sure if they would be coolish tho

My 75% wool 25% bamboo is quite cool. It's finer than regular sock yarn, so you will probably need more stitches, maybe 64 or 68 instead of 60.
There's an ongoing argument about whether wool is cool in the summer and warm in the winter as afficionados claim. I think, myself, that it's more to do with the pattern. Lacy patters and trainer socks or even those little ones with pom poms on the back which tennis players used to wear.
I find I like to have exposed ankles in the summer....

That's a good point n!! I usually just carry on wearing my normal handknit socks till it gets REALLY hot (only a couple of days up here ) then it's bare feet - so maybe this 'cool wool' thing is right.
I seem to remember M & S having labels on summer things at one time with the phrase 'cool wool'
So maybe some lacy socks.

The other thing which might be good is sort of slouchy socks... picot edge and no rib at the top, maybe a stocking stitch folded thing, and then something very simple and lacy... even just rows of yo K2 tog every ten rounds, which would create "folds" in the fabric where it slouches.
Maybe knitting the legs in much bigger needles than the feet would work too, so the foot fits but the leg is fashionably baggy.
No idea if any of this would work BTW, I'm just thinking out loud.

I don't wear my handknit socks in the spring or summer as they don't tend to fit under my more springy shoes so I have some thin bamboo and cotton ones I got from Asda...and when it is really hot it's time to get out the nail polish and the Birkenstock sandals!

My feet easily overheat in warm weather so I'm bare foot and sock free at the moment!! I doubt I will get socks back on for a while.

I had on a pai of trainer socks knitted in Cho 7 (Bergere De France) sock yarn today, it has antibac fibre in it too.
They kept my feet quite cool in my trainers whilst cycling.
Have some Regia cotton and Lana Grossa cotton sock yarn in stash so going to try some with those, I like the breeze round my ankles when cycling.

regia cotton blends are lovely and I used the surf colours last year and they are lovely and cool. I have to wear a trainer sock with - well my trainers obviously because I hate it when you get the slimey, yukiness (trainers without any kind of sock is just wrong...and smelly!)
