that looks lovely, really like the patterns, unfortunately, most of them!!

I'd echo what Jessica has said, lovely yarn, super patterns!

I just got an email too!!! Looks gorgeous

I've just seen the email too. I love that cabled yoke cardi

Oh no, not more patterns to tempt me!! Looking lovely

Very nice...lovely colours and pattern support! Em's is a really good company...their yarns are usually alot cheaper AND their prices include P&P if you order over £10 I think!
|
malteser

That is really nice. Sirdar seem to have some good yarns/patterns around at the moment.

I was looking at the sample card in my LYS the other day and it looks lovely. I can't wait to see it and squish it properly

I just received some samples of this today and it is LOVELY!!! A bit like a cross between Rowan Cocoon (tho not as silky) and Sirdar Peru. Quite loosely spun and lovely natural colours. I want to make that cabled yoke cardi too .

Got the pattern book for this today and it is really lovely - 22 patterns I think - some for men and kids. The yarn is really lovely too
Just cast on and I would say it's like a rustic handspun.

Pictish.... how exactly did you get "samples"?
Big samples... small samples?

Well I bought some other wool from a shop I've frequently bought from mail order and got talking about this new wool and they kindly sent me a mini-shadecard of it!!

Aaaaaaah Ha.
I had visions of "ten virgin skeins in the same dyelot all wrapped up in a sealed bag" type of samples.

Is that a good thing or bad thing??

Welllll. I like it but I'm not sure I would wear it next to my skin cos it might be tickly It is very loosely spun - just one ply - and a bit splitty to knit with. It will be very warm tho I'm sure and lovely for a jacket which is what I'm planning.
|

Just to add to this - I am LOVING this wool in this pattern which is the cable jacket pattern here . It is one of the nicest yarns to cable with I have ever used - very springy. It is very like those British Breed yarns you can get so definitely not an alpaca silk or anything - a Welsh Grey or something It has the occasional long sheepy hair or two

I love that pattern and was looking at getting that and the yarn this morning. Glad you have given it good reviews.

It's DEFINITELY worth doing Kate!! I'm really pleased with the way it's knitting up. It's beautifully and clearly written as Sirdar patterns always are and great for me as it's all written out - ie row by row instructions rather than a chart which I HATE for cabling
I'll take a piccy when the light is better - tomorrow maybe. I'm up to row 12 of the cable pattern.
It's standard dk so you could sub with any dk in this but the Eco wool gives a lovely firm texture.

I went to find this on Diannes site this morning and got sidetracked by all the new spring and summer patterns that Sirdar have out at the moment WOW!!
DON'T LOOK if you are a pattern addict like me!!

I agree - there are some lovely patterns coming out

Might just have to look ........

Ooh there are tons of fab Calico ones, Luxury cotton DK and 4 ply ones and Soy ones too I'm going to have a peek later on cos I can't afford timewise to get distracted at the mo
I'd better get off here then

Looing forward to seeing that cardi Ali, I really fancy that one too
Debs, the same happened to me, I had to get 3 of them & I'm sure more will follow along with an order for that new Denim tweed dk in fairisle pattern!

Well after doing a full 20 row pattern repeat the instructions suddenly became less than clear I THINK I know what they mean - I asked the lady in the shop and she thought the same. I may try it or wait till the Sirdar Helpline is open again on Weds.
How do you find NEW Sirdar patterns at Dianne's then???? I think the Soy stuff looks gorgeous!!
|
Jo028
|
You have to go to the pre-order page & scroll through them. If there's link to buy it, it means it's not loaded onto the current pattern section. Some new numbers are around the 9012 & up
ETA if you look at the patterns page for the yarn you like, they're all up now & available for pre-order, 9013 is coming to live with me!
|
pictish
|
Aha!! Didn't think of that

For those intending to knit the Cable Yoke Jacket the pattern is a bit unclear - I rang the helpline and the lady gave me the opposite advice to my lys but I think I trust the helpline more So when you have finished the 20 row pattern repeat for the first time just repeat rows 1-20 until you reach the specified length - this is on the back - BUT the first and every 6th row will be the C6B - just keep that following on and follow the pattern as is for the big cable. It will make sense when you start doing it

I've just got my copy of the Eco wool pattern book, along with a sample ball in the colour "clay" from Em's Stitches. I think both the pattern book and the yarn are lovely.
|
pictish
|
I love it!!
|
Glynis
|
I note that the price at Em's is only £2.70 a ball at the moment!
|
pictish
|
That's very good - and free postage over £10.
|
Glynis
|
Yes, indeed!!
I rather fancy the waistcoat...well actually I fancy the cable yoke cardi, the ribbed jacket (with collar) and the bramble/garter stitch collar jacket.
But I'm trying to be sensible about this .......................... maybe.

Gasp!
Not real wool from Sirdar???
I thought they only did the plastics?!?
|

I was squishing this in the shop today, again it really is lovely, and i love the natural colours... apparantly someone came in asking if they did it in pink she was soon told that if they ever make sheep in pink then she'll be the first to know

Well I don't think I'd call their Sublime range 'plastic' It's nicer than DB I think cos it's all natural - no 'microfibre'

This is the cabled jacket pattern as it's knitting up. It looks like it might be in next month's - ie the one due out end of Feb - Knitting mag as it's on the cover

Ali, that's looking gorgeous, I had a squidge in my LYS yesterday & the grey is my fave, trying to resist it though until my 'yarn mileage' has been drastically reduced
|

|
Ooo I like that

I got mine before the stashalong It cables beautifully.

Pictish, are you still working on this? It looks fantastic! I'm so so tempted by this pattern, the cabled yoke cardi - found it by accident when browsing Dianne's for the Countrystyle pattern for the KAL you've just started I think I like this better! So now I really don't know - Countrystyle pattern plus cheap yarn I already have .... or splash out for the Eco yarn and the pattern book answers on a postcard please
Nobody mention stashalong, OK?
|
pictish
|
This is LOVELY FC!!!! I have a ribby cardi on the go from the same book but the cable yoke is stunning in this wool. So I say ..... get this - pattern and Eco wool and then buy the pattern for the Hoodie and knit it with the wool you already have
|
FatCat

That thought had occurred to me as well, great minds I may well do that. Well, see how I feel in the morning. Thanks Ali!

It's looking gorgeous Ali
"insert green with envy icon"
I'm still waiting for my pattern book
Plenty to get on with in the meantime though.
DH has decided he doesn't want a jumper, so I have what should be enough pure natural wool yarn (sheep colour, but dark brown ones) to make this.
So I don't need the lovely cranberry colour I've picked (but a girl can have more than one cardi, right?)
Linda

I think it will look better in the natural wool colour Linda What's happened to your pattern book??

If anyone is still looking for the Eco pattern book, it's available at Knit & Sew for only £4.99, so is the Calico book & 3 shades of New Just Soya seem to be incorrectly priced at just £1.99. Don't ask me how I know this (they deliver really quickly too).

Hmmm, I'm really wanting those new Sirdar book with all the summer things in them, and the basics book and Eco book as well. I do have a lot of stash to knit up y'see....

I think the cabled cardi in Sirdar Eco may be in the next issue of Knitting magazine as there was a picture of it on the 'coming next month' page.
|
FatCat
|
Thanks for that Malteser, I might buy Knitting mag instead then, it's cheaper, and not many of the other patterns in the book really grab me. Hopefully there won't be any misprints or errors!
|

Knitting is more reliable I think!!

|
Kemps have got Sirdar Eco for £2.50 - sure it was £3.25 in Hobbycraft
|
pictish
|
My LYS has it for £3 so that is good!!
|
pictish
|
As well as the cably jacket in this month's Knitting there is also the ribby cardi from the Eco book in Let's Knit this month
|
FatCat
|
oooh! Thanks Pictish! But - if I bought both magazines it'd actually work out more expensive than just taking the plunge and buying the pattern book
|

Everybody seems to be doing Eco patterns and features on organic wool atm
