I've been thinking about this...the wintery bit and I do think it's quite a good idea to promote early knittery gift bits (as they have) knitted goods are really colder weather items. I do think there should be more inspiration for summer knitting but I think a lot a people shy away at this time of year and maybe this is to tempt them back.
I love the Trilobyte Hat

Ooh Why thank you! My day just gets better and better
Well, I like lots of things out of this issue, and to be honest by the time I finish making any of them, the gloves/shawls especially, it WILL be autumn and I'll need them. Personally I think the planning ahead for Christmas gifts idea is great.
Maybe it's part of a bigger plan and they're changing their patterns around a bit to account for the amount of time it takes people to a) clear existing stuff off the needles and b) actually make the new patterns? Granted, some people cast on immediately and finish within a week but I'd say that was the exception rather than the rule and most of us take a good while longer. So maybe the Autumn Knitty will have some Spring stuff, the Winter one will have Summer stuff and so on Just a thought, I've no idea if this is actually the case

i thought it was too wintry when i looked at it but then i thought about how long it's taking me to knit a lacy summer top for mysefl - at the rate it's going it'll be october before i finish it

It is Ali, i only had the one ball that came in my mitt kitt but they are lovely and soft but you can feel the strength from the hemp in it too, if that makes sense?? I'd definitely buy more if i needed it, that's how much i like it
