Mystery beret KAL

So, i'm joining Woolly Owrmhead's Mystery Beret KAL on Ravelry and i wondered if anybody else might like to join me?
The details are:
Quote:
It’s a beret.

It’s slouchy.

It’s lacey.

It’s a mystery.

And it’s free.

All instructions for the Mystery Beret KAL will be posted in the Wormhead’s Hats group here on Ravelry - come over and join us! Instructions will be posted weekly, with charts and supporting photos, starting the beginning of November and lasting for the month.

Project will be knit in the round and suitable for adventurous beginners to intermediates. Pattern will be available in 3 sizes.

Perfect knitting for xmas - this will be a lovely feminine beret to gift!

And it's in Aran weight Wink

I've just joined the group Franney. It'll be nice to have a smaller mystery project and end up with another C list FO!!!
franney

My thoughts exactly Linz, i'm going to knit it in a colour i don't like then if i really like the hat i won't be tempted to keep it for myself Laughing
Cathie

Sounds like fun, and achievable in a small time scale.  I joined the godness knits mystershawl and failed dismally at that a smaller project sounds ideal

FatCat

sounds intriguing!  But I really like to see the what the FO looks like while I'm knitting it, not only so I've got a picture as guidance but also because if I'm putting in the effort I've got to know I'm going to like the end result  Rolling Eyes   Just the way I'm wired I guess  Razz  Laughing

I shall watch with interest though, good luck to you all!   Very Happy
franney

FatCat, you can always jump in if you like what you see after the first installment Wink
cazzie

I might - be something different - could do it for DD  Very Happy
franney

Cool Very Happy

So what wools are we thinking of using then? I'm going to go for a Sirdar Aran with wool from stash, probably either cherry red, lavender or grey Confused
(for the first one Wink )
sallyjoy

ooh, thanks for pointing that out franney, I've just joined up. Have ben thinking about a beret for a while, but not sure I can really pull one off.

But if all else fails it's another one for the present pile!

Never knitted a beret before, I'm rather excited!
Nevisknitter

I'm not sure if a beret would suit me, I know beanies dont as I have loads of thick frizzy hair.
Might make it anyway, if it doesnt look good on me it mght suit someone else and have aran in stash.

I should have finished my 3 lace mystery knits by then.
janice

Sounds like fun, never done a mystery knit before  Laughing
FatCat

OK, I've had a rethink and I've decided to live dangerously and join in  Shocked  Laughing  Should be fun!  Someone might have to give me a nudge when the first clue comes out, I might have forgotten about it by then  Rolling Eyes
KnittingLadybird

I've got some purple...and sis in mind ( but DD1 might nip in first) I would like a new beret in cream.

Question...do berets suit peeps with short hair? cos my lovely mum says hats don't suit her but i'm sure berets are universal! anyway she wore a lovely, elegant pillbox hat when I got married...and she had exactly the same cute short hair even then Wink
slowasasnail

Might be tempted by this as have loads of Aran in my stash.  When does it start???

Berets suit big hair, i've made two for my friend who has really curly hair and they look great on her, but beanies don't Wink

WOOHOO! My only problem is that if it starts on the 1st November i won't actually be here until the 3rd cos that's our last weekend of camping this year! Oh how i wish i had an EEEEEEEPC and mobile internet access ROFL

I don't see why not, if you do the regular beret and not the super slouchy one it should be fine, i'm sure there are a lot of people with short hair who wear berets... i'm sure the French don't all have long hair laughing8

Oooooh, go on, you know you want to!
It starts in November, probably around the 1st, but as Ruth has intermittent internet access that might get delayed

Cool, good to have you playing along Janice Very Happy

I'm all excited now, i shall resist the temptation to get the aran out of the loft yet though, i've got a load of stash down already for various Chrimble projects Rolling Eyes
Alice

That's a great idea!!  I think a small project kal might be what I need to keep sane!
KnittingLadybird

There's a quick preview on Woolly Wormhead's blog here I think this will a really great knit Very Happy
pictish

I like the purpley one but that's not the Mystery one is it!! I still might be in this if my current one looks ok Razz
franney

I must be missing the wood for the trees Linz cos i haven't seen any mention of the Mystery Beret on her blog although i do remember reading something somewhere about someone spotting it somewhere but i've done something else since then and can't remember!! Embarassed

The new design will go wonderfully with the morning surf scarf though won't it Wink
pictish

There's a mention of it in the Rav group franney and I think it's the red one peeping out from behind the lovely new design Cool
KnittingLadybird

oh sorry folks I wasn't being too clear there...it IS the red one peeping out from behind the pink one. Embarassed
franney

I knew i'd seen it mentioned somehwere! Sorry Linz i was having a completely blonde moment Laughing Rolling Eyes
Nevisknitter

The first clue is now on the Wormheads hats forum in Rav here.
Now got to go stashdiving for some aran, I came across a black ball of it last week, just got to find it again.
franney

i was hoping that it would be delayed rather than brought forward Laughing

I'll have to track down the ball of something i was going to use and hope that i can knit it along with the Chrimble gifts i still have to make! Laughing
FatCat

What?!!  It's started already?   Shocked I thought it wasn't happening until November!  But I haven't even started to think about what yarn to use.

*gets flustered and panicky*   Laughing

Yeah, Ruth is going to be on the road still for the first bit of November so there was a poll to decide if the start date should be brought forward or put back... the bring forward crew won! Laughing
KnittingLadybird

ooooh best get hunting my purple then Very Happy
franney

I've just seen the second clue.. me and KALs are a bit of a hit and miss and i forget to look for the clues! Laughing
But anyway, what i'm trying to say is that this beret will be a lovely partner for all your Cranford mitts as it's done in horseshoe lace too Very Happy

I'm off to cast on a pink one Wink

(I don't know why, but after i wrote that last line i felt the urge to say FNARR FNARR! Laughing )
cazzie

Laughing

I'm a bit of a non-starter at the mo - as usual  Rolling Eyes   But I am still tempted esp if it matches Cranfords - I have more of these planned to knit  Very Happy
Nevisknitter

I haven't knit any cranfords yet, however I am planning on casting on for the beret tonight once I have found the aran. I'm going to do it in black, if it doesnt suit me then DD might pinch it.
knittingnanny

I'm planning to make one or 2 of these, but I'm not sure if it will suit me.  A couple of things to finish first, so I don't know when I'll cast on.  Cream again methinks, eyeing the stash!!

Linda

Just spotted the finished version on Ravelry - love the pattern Very Happy
