More spinning practiceI've spent this afternoon spinning the two alpaca rolags I carded last Sunday from some fibre in the sample packs Diane gave us.
Here are the rolags:
I spun them both and plied the yarn with itself after rewinding it onto that traditional plying tool, the cardboard loo roll tube
A rolag is quite different to spin from than a combed top, which is what I had spun up till now. The fibres are going in all directions, and there is much more air in them. I was pleased I managed to get the hang of it. My carding could be improved though, I found a few lumpy bits which I should have taken out.
Here's how it turned out after plying and finishing:
I think it's actually knittable, so maybe an ipod cosy!

I'm in complete awe of anyone who can turn a bit of carpet fluff into a perfectly acceptable and utterly knittable skein of yarn!! It looks terrific Carol!!

Thanks! I have quite a few other samples, so I'll work my way through them when I have time and lo roll tubes

That lloks good, going to pinch your idea of using loo roll tubes for plying too.
