Monkeys or No Purl Monkeys?Calling all Monkey fans Apart from the obvious what IS the difference and which are nicer or easier?? I haven't a clue and this will be my first real go at a 'proper' sock pattern. Is one better written than the other?

I only use no purl now as I love the swirling that it leaves on the sock. It is also much quicker. But I think the original pattern is nice.
Why not klnit one of each?

I'm going to make some more Monkeys as my others are in the back of the drawer waiting to be darned!! So...where is the No Purl pattern???! I'm all for making socks knit up quicker!

I've never made the No Purl ones, just the originals. But I love them - I like the ridges from the purling. I'd say give them a go, if you don't like the purls then try again without
What yarn are you thinking of using? Not that that will make a difference, I'm just being nosey

I like the bumps too actually FC...so I may do the original ones again! I'm not sure which yarn I am using but this one will have NYLON in it...unlike my original Cherry Tree Hill ones

Have a look in the Socktopus thread - in Suppliers Nest FC - I've got the yarn Cookie A used which is Shelridge Farm Soft Touch Ultra in a colour similar to the one she uses - sort of yellow/green/rust - very bright. There are pics!!
Think I will try the standard ones first then the no purls next

aha, I'd already admired that very yarn but I hadn't realised you'd got it specifically to make the Monkeys. Nice! They're going to look so fabulous
Good plan Blossom - the CTH is gorgeous but it does seem to wear out quite quickly
Wow, looking forward to more Monkeys - perhaps we should have another Monkey-A-Long? I'd be up for making another pair

Auntie Noo

I've just started some no-purl ones - for no reason other than I'm too lazy to purl !!

I'm on my second pair - purl ones too - this time in Shepherd Sock in Shadow. Is it harder to keep track of where you are in the repeat with the no-purl?

Cor, bet the Shadow ones are nice! What yarn are you using Noo?
so, that's two Monkeys OTN, no doubt Gilraen has at least one pair on the go and another three that are due to be cast on in the near future?
Shall we start a KAL thread? Or all go our independent Monkey ways on this one?

Has anyone got a link to the No-Purl Monkeys pattern please?

is there actually a pattern? I thought it was the same Monkey pattern but just knitting instead of where it said to purl
But I could be wrong

Oooh not sure Claire I just looked quickly yesterday on Rav

Auntie Noo

I was just following the orginal pattern and not purling the purls!!
I'm using Opal neon Fatcat - need to use up some of my old stash!

Ooh, Monkey business
I've just looked it up on Ravelry see here and it does indeed seem to be knitting the purl stitches.
I might be up for this - I'm on a sock at the moment, and I'm feeling adventurous, so you never know.
edited to add that if you are signed into Ravelry there are loads of No Purl Monkeys here for inspiration.
They look lovely in all sorts of yarns.

What yarn (as in colour) would be best out of these 3...
A Opal Ladybird (broad and narrow stripes but only a couple of colours)
B Purple varigated (different shades of purple with cream)
C Fabel 901 (multi coloured in narrow stripes/fairisle effect)
When i've come to a decision on yarn - count me in

Sorry Linz no idea - I am totally rubbish at working out what would look good in what when it comes to sock yarn..... My best suggestion is to pick the colour you like best and knit away!!!
|
FatCat
|
hmm, I'm not sure either - perhaps the purple variegated might be better than a striping? But perhaps not, I'm sure I've seen lovely striping ones too! Why don't you put all three balls in a hat and close your eyes and go with whichever one you draw out? If you don't like how it's knitting up then you can always frog and start over with something else?
Sorry, not been much help really!

Linz you need gilraen here She has a bit of experience when it comes to Monkeys ...... Oooh that sounds a bit funny

I vote for the purple. I think stripes might take the eye away from the pattern.
