Mega lace plus photoI've finally finished knitting the Hemlock Ring blanket that I was making.
The edging took ages (and loads of yarn- I'm calling the introduction of a new colour for the edging a "design feature").
I was SO disappointed when I was finished because it was so bunched up and tight that I thought it would never be blockable (is that not a word???).
Anyway, I soaked it and stretched it and discovered a bit too late that a single bed is not really wide enough for blocking it (ie nearly ten oclock at night , and I was not about to go searching for another suitable space.)
It still wasn't quite dry when I went out this morning, but I think that it will be ok to move it when I am home again at tea-time.
Photo will follow if it still looks ok without the pins

I wanna seee (in whiny kid sister voice) LOL I love this idea of using lace doily patterns to make shawls etc by swopping the yarn and needle sizes.

Blossom, you can find it online via Ravelry, by typing Hemlock Ring Blanket, and of course you can see all the other versions (some of them are strongly coloured and absolutely gorgeous).
I used Rowan Magpie aran which I got in a sale yonks ago, and I used size 5mm needles, though I really think 5.5 or 6mm would have made it easier to block successfully. It took about 500g and measures 42 inches across as blocked.

that is beautiful! I was looking at some of them on Ravelry earlier and thought about making one. I could do with a nice warm lap blanket to keep my legs warm when i'm sitting at the computer studying. After seeing yours I'm even more tempted.

i love this pattern although i am not so sure i am skilled enough, it looks rather complicated. i have seen a few of these now and love all the different colourways but i espcially like it in the light colours., white or cream would be for me
well done you for completing it, how long did it take you??

I've been inspired!
i nearly cast on tonight, but found that my mum has the needles I need. I raided the stash and found 3 skeins of cascade 220 that I can use. It may not work as I am using 3 different colours. It will have pale pink in the centre, bright pink in the middle and dark pink around the edge.
These colours match our bedroom. I need a blanket that I can use everywhere in the house but mainly for when I'm in the computer or when I'm sitting on the bed and need to cover my legs up. I also think it would great laid on the bed.
I have to finish some other projects first, so not going to buy the needles until ally pally.

Daisydap, it is really quite a quick knit, and it's truly not very complicated.
I completed it in around four weeks, and that's during a time when I was very busy with other things too.
I did find that at the end I was knitting it using a 120cm and a 100cm length needle to ease the strain a bit, because in pure wool it felt quite weighty and I really would use a bigger size needle were I to be starting the project all over again.
Bagpuss, I think it will look wonderful in pinks as you describe.
