Love to Hate...

I love Rialto, the new Debbie Bliss merino. It feels like cashmere without the cashmere price.

However, I'm a little miffed at it right now as I am on my 4th ball and have encountered, count them 3! knots!!!! Each ball is only about 100 m so why can't they have put together balls without knots?????

I hate that in expensive yarn too..................Sad

One I can tolerate more than that I feel cheated! Sad

My mum always used to say that you would get knots in cheap yarn but that simply isn't the case any more. I had 7 balls of Big Wool once - and only one didn't have a knot in it and some had more than one Evil or Very Mad and that's not cheap.

I know we've talked about this before elsewhere - and there's a minimum / maximum standard for knot that's deemed to be acceptable - can't remember off the top of my head, but it is the single most annoying thing I know!

I agree!!! - I had this with Noro in every ball of a set of 9 and it really annoyed me because it made all the colours go out of order so I ended up splitting the balls down even further to make the stripes work. It actually put me off buying Noro again, which is a shame cos the colours are delicious, but it just wasn't worth the faffing about!

i found rowan summer tweed a beep for knots and debbie bliss cashmerino aran, neither of which were cheap yarns Evil or Very Mad i tend to knit the kids' stuff in cheapy acrylic so i can just bung them in the washer and save the nicer stuff for accessories.

I've found the same with Noro yarn, and whilst I love the colours I don't think I would spend the money on it again.

Not actually tried Debbie Bliss yarns, but was looking at them in my LYS and they feel so nice and the colours are all lovely.

One of the reasons I dont buy Debbie Bliss yarn anymore is that all of her yarn that I have used has been full of knots (and it splits dreadfully, and pills as well Sad ). I remember at Woolfest last year speaking to one of the online knitting shops (cant remember which one, maybe Kangaroo, maybe not!) and apparently Debbie Bliss changed where her yarn was manufactured early last year and a lot of people felt that the quality had decreased since.

Must the thing at the mo, the Sirdar Denim Ultra I am using had 3 knots in one ball grrrrr.

Is it something like 4 knots per 50g ball and 8 knots per 100g ball? I will go and investigate......

The trouble is you only know you've had more than the 'allowed' knots per ball when you've physically knitted the yarn from the ball Confused

Have investigated further and can reveal that according to Sirdar, 4 knots are allowed in a 50g ball and 8 in a 100g ball. Make of that what you will Confused

My whole beef is that it's just that many more ends to weave in.

Oh well. I'm off to work more on the back armholes. I need to get this finished so that I can get paid for it! Shocked
