Me?
What did I do?
It looks good to me, is it going to be rectangular?

Just wait till you see what got delivered today.....

LittleBerry

you and your yarn inspired me to do my own design... yes it's going to be rectangular and hopefully (fingers crossed) a knitted on border.....

telling me things like "you should see what I got delivered today" is not nice!!!! not without photos anyway.....
KnittingLadybird

LB that is looking so brilliant. I think you are really clever for designing you own too.
LittleBerry

I've completed a full repeat now, you can enlarge the photo on my blog and see the beads (they're size 9 which is just what I had in, will use size 8 when I knit the real thing)

Thanks for all your kind comments but as I said on my blog if there's any constructive criticism please let me know....
KnittingLadybird

How could anyone critised that...It's just lovely, great little motif you have chosen Very Happy
n

How big is it LB?
And how big is it going to be?
Are there going to be more repeats across the width?
I'd like to have a go at somethig like this but I really want something narrow which will grow quickly... a sort of confidence boosting stole. IYKWIM.

It's going to have more repeats across the width and hopefully (fingers crossed) a border knitted on after although the edging I have chosen makes a nice edge as it is.... I am just experimenting now as to wether I leave space above each row of repeats or sit them on top of each other.... I am trying not to make it too complicated or fussy in other words get too clever with it....

At the moment I would say as it is, it's a good scarf width when blocked (there's 55sts on)....

in each motif repeat there are 8 stitches patterned on WS rows so it's a combination of lace knitting & knitted lace......
LittleBerry

OK what do you think now I've got two pattern repeats?

Leave as is? or Consider spacing out he pattern repeats (vertically) and put another motif in betwen?

YarnAddict

I quite like it like that. And I love the edging too. When yo uwrite it up why don't you write it up for a narrow one (a shawl) and a wider one for a shawl/stole? Then it gives people more choice.I really like that lace pattern too.

I'm just in the process of designing a new rectangular shawl. It's changed completely (like no original element left) since I started charting and swatching yesterday morning and all the knitting I did yesterday has been ripped out. Rolling Eyes Think I may have decided now but who knows? Wink

It's fun this designing lark adn so frustrting at times. Laughing
LittleBerry

thanks Yarn addict I musdt admit there's not much left of the original motif as I've chopped and changed it to make it less complicated as there was a lot of knitted lace rather than lace knitting... so now there are just 4 WS rows in every repeat that are knitted....

I have to admit it's one of my favourite edgings (just realized thats patterned on both sides but is easy).....

I was thinking about giving instructions for scarf (as it is now would be suitable) and then you can knit the stole/wrap at full width and add a border if you want to or not.......

I have a constant inner battle with design..... this is my first go at designing for knitting and so far am pleased with my efforts.....
KnittingLadybird

I think it's just beautiful as is for the scarf...and if you ever write it up i'd give it a go. I'm sort of imagining that a wrap version would obviously have more repeats across but maybe more plain rows in between too, just my opinion mind, you're the designer Wink
knitty, witty, woo

It's beautiful....you are so clever.
