La Dentelle Belle Scarf Pattern Question

I started knitting this tonight with some gorgeous Piece of Beauty Silk de la Mer that Gilraen kindly traded with me (thank you!). The yarn is gorgeous to work with, and a bit thicker (3ply) so much easier to use.

However, I keep ending up with the wrong number of stitches and cant figure out what I'm doing wrong Confused Sad I end up with 58 stitches after row 1, and then have 3 extra stitches in the middle section when I knit row 3. The full pattern is here http://knituition.blogspot.com/2007/05/la-dentelle-belle-scarf.html and my rows I'm having problems with are:

Row 1: K2, yo, slp1, k1, psso, yo, k5, yo, k3, ~PM~ (*k1,yo,k2, slp1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k2, yo) Repeat from (*) to last st. ~PM~ K1, k3, yo, k5, yo, k2tog, yo, k2

Row 2: And every even row, k2, purl to last 2 stitches, k2

Row 3: K1, slip1, k1, psso, yo, slip1, k1, psso, yo, k2, slip 2 stitches tog. as if to knit, k1, psso, k4,~m~ (* k1, yo, k1, slp 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k2, yo,) Repeat from * to last st. ~m~ K1, K4, slp 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

At the risk of sounding like a complete newb, am I right in assuming when you do a double decrease you pass both slipped stitches over, not just one?

I hope I dont end up having another Shoalwater non-starter as I love this pattern and the yarn really suits what little I have knitted. Its for my mum for Christmas Smile

ETA: Just noticed that Cazzie posted about this the other day and Glynis is currently knitting it too, so fingers crossed her wisdom will prevail Smile

Piglottie, I had trouble with the written instructions, so I decided to use the charts and have had no problem with them.
In row 3 first edge you are passing the two slipped stitches over together.

I have just cast off my scarf, so the next job is to block it, which will be a bit of a chore I think Sad My pre-blocked length is around 45 inches, and I would have had enough yarn to do one more repeat if I'd wished.

This is still on my to do list and I usually work from written instructions - will have to look at Smile

Thanks Glynis! I might have to give the chart a go Shocked I'm OK with them, just slower.

I follow Yarn Harlot's blocking instructions and it always works for me

How many repeats did you do Glynis to get that length? And thank you so much for your help. I've frogged the little bit I had done and will start again tomorrow Smile
Glynis

Piglottie, I did 31 repeats using Fyberspates alpaca sock yarn. This is quite a fine yarn, and I was using old size 10 needles (3.25mm?).
The original was knitted with finer yarn on larger needles, so I don't yet know quite how mine is going to look.
When I was planning (ahem) this project I misremembered what fingering weight was and thought it was a 4ply, otherwise I might have done things differently Rolling Eyes
Oh and the unblocked width is around 8inches.

I've have had a look at this pattern - and I think there is a typo on row 3 - the patterns says:

Row 3: K1, slip1, k1, psso, yo, slip1, k1, psso, yo, k2, slip 2 stitches tog. as if to knit, k1, psso, k4,~m~ (* k1, yo, k1, slp 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k2, yo,) Repeat from * to last st. ~m~ K1, K4, slp 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

The central stitches only count up to 9 instead of the patt repeat of 10, which is why you were getting 3 spares stitches

I think it should read:

Row 3: K1, slip1, k1, psso, yo, slip1, k1, psso, yo, k2, slip 2 stitches tog. as if to knit, k1, psso, k4,~m~ (* k1, yo, k2, slp 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, k2, yo,) Repeat from * to last st. ~m~ K1, K4, slp 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k1

I havent knitted it to test it out (might be tempted to have a go later on Wink )
Glynis

Yes, you are right Cazzie, that's where the error is.

Until this Summer the only charts I would use were colour-work schemes, but I now find charts much easier than written instructions for lace. I've not tried for other stitch work yet though.
Piglottie

Thanks Cazzie! I have the afternoon free so I will cast on again and let you know.

Glynis - I'm using a finer yarn as the Silk de la Mer is a 3ply. I did the first part that I frogged on 3.75mm and it was OK but I think I will redo it with 3.5mm (I dont have a 3.25mm unless its a dpn)
cazzie

Teresa from Knituition has now corrected this on her blog Very Happy

I've just finished my first pattern repeat and it works out perfectly so big thanks Cazzie (plus I can avoid using the chart Smile ). I love this pattern and the yarn looks beautiful with it - I'll take a pic when I have more to show. I think it will take me awhile though as in 2 hours I only did one repeat but then I did make a mistake again and had to frog and restart. Smile
Glynis

Mine is blocking as we speak. Stretched out it is 50 inches by 10, but that will relax in a little bit I guess.
I really love the yarn I've used, but it does confuse the eye with the busy lace Shocked Laughing

Oooh can't wait to see the piccies...
