Katherine by Anya SetonJust finished this and would heartily recommend it I read it when i was about 13 - well ALL of her books - and this has definitely stood the test of time. It is beautifully researched and written - very evocative - and really stays with you afterwards. I think it is a little over-romanticised in parts but hey who cares It's the story of Katherine Swynford who is the mistress of John of Gaunt in the C14th. She has a whole load of children by him who are given the name of Beaufort and who are later legitimised when John and Katherine marry very late in life. Their descendants are on either side in the Wars of The Roses in the C15th. It was one of the Top 100 books the other year.
