Katherine by Anya Seton

Just finished this and would heartily recommend it Very Happy I read it when i was about 13 - well ALL of her books - and this has definitely stood the test of time. It is beautifully researched and written - very evocative - and really stays with you afterwards. I think it is a little over-romanticised in parts but hey who cares Cool It's the story of Katherine Swynford who is the mistress of John of Gaunt in the C14th. She has a whole load of children by him who are given the name of Beaufort and who are later legitimised when John and Katherine marry very late in life. Their descendants are on either side in the Wars of The Roses in the C15th. It was one of the Top 100 books the other year.

There's Devilwater Claire about the '45 rebellion and the Radclyffes, The Winthrop Woman about the Mayflower and the pilgrims, Avalon, The Turquiose, The Hearth & the Eagle and Green Darkness which is spooky. Plus My Theodosia. Have read them all but can't remember the plots of some Confused But she was one of my favourites at that time Cool .
