How many pairs of handknitted socks do you have?My dream since I made my first ever pair has been to have a drawer full of handknitted socks At the moment I only have 7 pairs and this is a bit of a problem cos I just don't like wearing shop bought ones any more
How many pairs do you all have? And do you still wear the other sort ?

Hmm....I wish you hadn't asked that....
In the box in my drawer there are ten pairs and those are the ones I wear.
And NO I don't ever wear the other sort ....oh...unless I need an extra pair underneath with wellies and then I might wear a fine pair of dh's cotton socks....
And then there's the Main Box of sock fo's and I've had to count them - there are 29 pairs there. Don't ask what they are for......
I've got several pairs otn and six pairs just waiting for a bit of end-sewing-in and these are all destined to be c-presents.
Actually, on reflection I'm glad you asked because I've loved looking at some that I'd forgotten about.

I have 9 pairs, must admit I never wear shop bought socks now, but the rest of my family still do. None of them have hand knitted socks except DS1 and he keeps his for sleeping in.
My stepmum was admiring my socks so I am going to knit her a pair for christmas and going to knit a pair for DH too.

er, I did have over 30.
however, I had a big cull before we moved house, as some of the ones I knit 2 years ago have started to shrink a bit, so I now have the 24 I knit last year. I wear them most of the time, but not in summer as they're too hot.

I obviously need more I only have 4 pairs!!
I do wear the shop bought ones as well with dressier boots and I wore a pair with shoes today. The 4 ply knitted ones won't fit into my boots and work shoes and they would look a bit silly I've got a pair of knee-length black ones on today

Alice I WON'T ask what the 29 in the box are for but I am very curious
CJ I just wish I had 24 pairs - that is a good number

I have six pairs which I wear all the time around the house, and also with trainers. I do wear the shop-bought type with shoes (boot type shoes that I wear with trousers) as the hand-knitted ones are too thick.

I think I've got about 12 pairs It's very rare that I wear shop bought socks now either

I've got 11 pairs which are definately mine, 5 pairs which got borrowed and never returned and a couple of pairs that shrank a bit so the girls ended up with those.
And I have to wear black socks for work (which is just stupid imo) so unless I knit me some black ones, they are bought.

I have six pairs, but most are a bit thick with most of my shoes, so they get worn at home.
The only pair that are not too bulky are my ones made from proper (Yarn Yard) sock wool. The others are made of plusher 4ply wool from NDS rather than high twist sock yarn.

I have none
Have only knitted two pairs - felted one pair and the other wore into hole!

Oh no Cazzie!!! You desperately need some - I bet you have some sock yarn in your stash

Me - no none
Just a wee bit then (50 skeins at least)
And I do actually have a pair on the needles for DS (child size 13) - he has decided he likes handknitted socks as they have no "lumpy bits" (seams) at toes.

Just been to count ...
*prepares for the walk of shame*
I have 50 pairs How on earth did that happen? No wonder I'm running out of drawer space But 10 of those are trainer socks, so perhaps they won't count and it's only 40 really....?
I've only 2 pairs OTN at the moment, but enough sock yarn in stash to make, ooh, about another 60 pairs
*note to self, no need to buy sock yarn for, ooh, ever! *
I do wear the other sort sometimes, I've a smart pair of boots for meetings etc that need thinner socks under them, and also when I'm on holiday I take shopbought socks so they can go into a service wash and be tumbledried and come out still wearable

LOL @ FatCat
I'm well impressed!
I have...5 pairs - which is pretty good going as I have hardly ever knitted any socks. I have knitted four other pairs which I gave away.
I do have a plan to knit more socks as they are small and portable and I can knit them in the car on the way to work, so I intend to increase that number. I've got a bit sidetracked by gloves and stuff at the moment though
I wear mostly handknitted socks as they are warm and comfortable, including with boots and even with shoes at work. I think they look fine!
I wear shop bought trainer socks though and currently shop bought hiking socks, although that might change.

I have 7 pairs but some of my early ones are a bit felted now, or a bit tight where I didn't know about things like sewn bind-offs etc..... So 4 are really good, and I don't like wearing the others either! Must knit faster...

I don't have any
The very first pair I knitted turned out too big so I gave it to DD. 2nd pair went to her too. 3rd to DS and 4th OTN is for DH.
I probably have 20 pairs worth in stash!
I need to knit more quickly

I've got about 5 pairs. I think OH has got 3 pairs. I really want to knit more as I much prefer wearing them to 'the other sort'! I have got 3 pairs of shoes which I bought a half size bigger so I can wear them with hand knits

I am exactly the same, realistically i know that i will probably never knit all of my sock yarn stash but i love every single ball and skein for one reason or another and no matter how often i try to find some to destash i just can't!
In fact, i have been known to buy colours i am not 100% in love with just so that i have something to put in "from stash swaps"
As for socks, i have 8 pairs i think it is, i wear them infrequently, usually camping cos they are warmer but always happy to wear shop bought socks. I'm not fussy
I bought some lovely thick woollen socks from Tesco in a sale, 3 pairs for a pound or something silly only they are too big so i am working my way through them, unravelling half the foot and reknitting the toe so they fit
Proper warm and cosy camping socks they are!

I've got 7 or 8 pairs but I only wear them when I am not at work. When I'm at work I wear plain black.
I have a large sock yarn stash (about enough for 20 pairs) that I like. I think I will try and make it through to 2010 without adding to it. Having said that I would like some more Posh Yarn Lucia as I love wearing the pair I have got in that, and I would like some Natural Dye Studio yarn and.......

I've got about 50 pairs of handmade socks at home, 20 of which I wear and about 30 which I haven't worn and are either the originals for patterns or ones I am saving to give as presents. Sometimes when I feel as if I haven't got anything nice and new to wear I raid the new sock drawer and take some for myself - it's cheaper than going clothes shopping!
I've got no shop made socks in the house at all now.

I love the idea of having a 'sock cull' Belaybunny - how does one go about it? Are they released into the wild? Flushed down the drain? Taken out against a wall and shot???
I only have 7 pairs for me at the moment, but I have a pair OTN as I type.
I think we should get together and each send Cazzie a pair of socks - poor dear, and so cold at the moment too ; )

Not quite in FC's league, but I've got 25 & ds has 3. I never ever wear shop-bought ones. It was only 3yrs ago I made my first pair (rainforest tiger) & they never once got back to the drawer, they were washed & worn immediately, now I have a choice
I seem to have accumulated 67 balls to make a few more too. I went shopping at 'Madame Deux Sacs Emporium' this week

I've only got 5 pairs so definately need to knit more for me. I still wear shop bought socks coz in the winter I like to wear knee high socks. Not sure I can face knitting some that long and not sure they'll stay up.
I like Pictish's idea of knitting myself some socks for Christmas.

I have 44 pairs of handknit socks as I've kept all the ones I've knitted for me except a couple of pairs of baby socks. Now I only really wear handknit socks except when I go to the gym.
My sock yarn stash is pretty big still too - I have enough to knit around 100 more pairs.
