How do I post a pic here from Flickr?

Sorry, I'm sure it's been asked and answered before but I can't spot it now Embarassed

At the moment I'm uploading to Flickr (for Ravelry) AND Photobucket (for here) and it seems silly to be doubling up  Rolling Eyes

I'm sure it must be really simple but I'm stumped.  Help.  Techonumpty in need ....  Confused
pictish

Joy gave us very clear instructions about a week ago but can't find it now Confused I'll do a search Cool
pictish

It's here - must try it myself.
FatCat

aha!  Brilliant - thanks Ali for the link and thanks Joy for the great explanation  Very Happy
slowasasnail

No you're not the only one...I've been doing the same.
loobyj

lj - when you have loaded and saved your project details, go to the photo page.

You will see tabs saying Flickr Importer and Search.

Click on Flickr Importer

Search will change to say Refresh

Click Refresh and your flickr photos will appear. You can drag them in to the little box thingy then. You can add as many photos as you like.

Ooo - thankyou Joy!  I shall go and have a play Very Happy

I might just have a go at trying the flickr to here thing Laughing So you might see a strange testing post soon Wink
Aknita

There is a certain irony, I think, in my giving out technical advice Wink
pictish

Let's see if this works!!

Well I never Razz That will save a lot of time Wink
loobyj

LOL at Joy!

Sadly I haven't yet been able to get any pics onto Ravelry.  I've tried three different browsers with no luck Sad  Am now wondering if it's because I'm using Vista Confused

Have to wait for Mr L to finish winning the league or whatever he's doing and have a go there.  Will report back soon!

I have hidden depths and hitherto untapped qualites Laughing

Pictish - that's an intriguing photo, details please.

Laughing It's one of my fair isle attempts Laughing It's a spring jumper which was published in My Weekly or W Weekly last year I think - can't remember which - and it's in Rowan Pure Wool DK which is gorgeous and soft - think the pattern is for Patons Diploma tho.

I DO find fair isle a bit of a pain tho I really love the look of it.

It's not a very good pic - it's a bit blurred Laughing
Aknita

The colours are lovely Very Happy

I don't use photobucket at all now.
pictish

Thanks!! Well I don't think I will be either.
franney

I know it's going to complicate matters but the Flickr! terms state that any picture linked to offsite must link back to the photos main page so you'll need to add a [url][/url ] tag to the [img] tag Sad
Although having said that i don't know how strict they are about it, and i just don't like breaking the rules so i do it Rolling Eyes

Here's a pic to help Very Happy

The code you need to put in your posts is:
Quote:

[url=text in red][img]text in green[/img ][/url ]

All the code needs to be on one line with no spaces or it won't work Wink

this post has been edited to make the instructions clearer Very Happy
KnittingLadybird

oooh I don't link back to flickr when I use pics cos the pics are usually mine...now I feel all naughty Wink though i've never been told off.

loobyj, it took me ages to upload to rav and it was because I had flickr set to private and it has to be public. Just a thought. Very Happy
Aknita

I feel naughty too Embarassed

This was the way I found that worked for me.

I wonder - how would they know Confused

And a very fine thought it was too  Laughing   Just a pity I didn't see until I came back here all triumphant cos I'd suddenly had a  Idea moment  Rolling Eyes

Anyway, have uploaded some pics now!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your help!  And I feel a bit naughty too.....

I don't know how they check but i presume they can see how much bandwidth they are using and where images are being linked from and they probably do random checks just to make sure - anyway my paranoia and honest nature do not allow me to link without linking back Very Happy Laughing

My other post looks really messy now, i will go back and tidy it up so that it's just the image and the instructions in brief - it really is very easy to do. I hope they consider providing the code in future as i would think that there are probably a LOT of people who just grab the image code and not the url code and they could make it a lot easier by providing the code like photobucket et al do!
FatCat

I hadn't realised that, about having to link back to the main photo page.  But thank you so much Franney - excellent clear instructions.  I've just successfully posted my first pic from Flickr, meeting all their legal requirements  Very Happy

Mods, any chance we can make this thread a sticky?  Pretty please? I KNOW I'll need to refer to it time and time again  Rolling Eyes
Woollywarbler

Thanks from me too....I've been doing both Photobucket and Flickr and getting cheesed off storing everything all over the show. It makes perfect sense on Ravelry now about the one line thing as I tried to post a picture on a forum there but it wouldn't show up despite trying my hardest. All because of one little detail, insert big sigh here Rolling Eyes

Is this you Franney??! Wink

I feel naughty too...I have always done it the Joy way...now I shall have to remember to add the url bit too! Smile Seems a bit off though...especially as they are OUR photos! Smile

Duly stickied!!!!

I feel awful for telling everyone how to do it incorrectly. I knew I shouldn't be giving out technical advice Wink

Don't be daft Joy, you were doing the picture link thing right, it's just that i am a bit anal when it comes to copyright and T&C's an all that... goodness only knows why though Rolling Eyes
I kind of agree with you Blossom, they are our pictures so why should we have to link to them... but on the other hand Flickr! are providing us with a free place to host them so the least we can do is provide some traffic back to them... i can see both sides really Confused

And i feel i should know that character but it's escaping me!

Not when you are paying for a Pro account!!! Laughing

It's Wordy from Words and Pictures!! Smile
franney

Ah, yes, Words and Pictures! Did he fly around or something?

I pay for a Pro account too, purely cos my stash photos took up the 200 picture limit and i couldn't see any other pictures Embarassed Very Happy Very Happy
Aknita

Franney, your sheepie has gone! I loved your sheepie, but I love this photo of you too Very Happy

What a nice avatar.
FatCat

I hadn't noticed there was a 200 pic limit in Flickr before you had to pay ....  Shocked  I might have to cull old photos when I get to that stage.  Hmm.  Thanks for that!

That is a fab avatar Franney!   Very Happy

I have to say I thought it was a monthly limit  Confused I have 148 photos altogether so far, but the upload photos page tells me "You've used 14% of your 100 MB limit this month" and that seems to change every month and go back to 0%

So I've never envisaged paying. I'll have to go back and have a proper look.

Ah, i should make myself clearer!
Only the most recent 200 photos uploaded to your free account will show on your account page - the rest will still be there but they won't be visible to you or anyone accessing your account page. I believe they will still show up in blog posts and elsewhere that they are linked to but you won't be able to do anything else with them. I hope that makes sense?
Check the Flickr! site for a proper explanation Wink

I upgraded simply because i use my Flickr! account for Ravelry, and even though i tried the photobucket slurper they provided i found Flickr! a whole lot easier to manipulate Very Happy

Joy - thankyou Embarassed i thought it was time for a change and my friend took this picture for me just for my avatar Very Happy
Aknita

Franney, where does it tell you that yo have to pay once you have 200 photos? I can't find anything about that at all ?:
franney

Aknita wrote:

Noooo Joy, you don't HAVE to pay, you can still have a free account, but you will only be able to see the last 200 pictures that you've uploaded, everything else before that is inaccesible to you (but not deleted) unless you upgrade to a pay account.
I found this in the help pages:
flickr wrote:
I have a free account. Some of my photos aren't showing up. Why?

On a free account, Flickr limits the number of photos displayed.

If you have fewer than 200 photos, we display them all. If you have more than 200 photos, only the most recent 200 are displayed.

Your photos are not removed from Flickr, only from the list of your photos. If you blogged a photo and it no longer appears in your list, it will still appear on your blog, and the photo's Flickr page will still work just fine.

If some of your photos aren't showing up, don't panic! Just upload some fresh ones. Or upgrade to a Pro Account.

Note: If your free account is inactive for 90 consecutive days, it will be deleted.
Aknita

Oh, I understand now ( feels very dim )

As long as they still appear on Ravelry then, that's fine. I download from my PC for my blog - I tried Photobucket once, but didn't like the fact that it took my blog so long to load up.

No need to feel dim Joy, i don't explain myself clearly enough most of the time Wink
I have over 300 pictures in my Ravelry Stash set now, i knew i would need to upgrade as i also use it for other purposes and i didn't like being unable to access earlier photos. I've an account with photobucket, imageshack, picasa and picturetrail as well as Flickr! but for ease of uploading, sorting, blogging and Ravelling i use Flickr! almost exclusively.
For forumming i tend to use imageshack as i like the thumbnails and ease of linking but now i have worked out an easier way of linking to Flickr! pics i will probably use them to save uploading the same pic twice Wink
slowasasnail

Am i being stupid...i just don't get this?  Do I still need Joy's original instructions coz they have disappeared.
pictish

I can't help cos I use photobucket!! Laughing You can upload direct from p/bucket onto Rav now Razz
slowasasnail

Oh can you???
pictish

Yep - much easier I think Laughing

I use this wonderful explanation from the lovely Franney, and have no probs posting from Flickr to here  Very Happy
slowasasnail

Ok I see that but where on the Flicker page do I get that info?  Sorry real numpty today.
FatCat

ah.  hang on, let me open up Flickr and see ...

right.  you click on the photo you want, and then on All Sizes at the top.  I usually select Medium from Available Sizes, and then the info to link to other websites is at the bottom of that screen.  Does that help at all?

And you're definitely not a numpty  Very Happy
