I'm going to have ago at a baby blanket from Sirdars Baby Blanket book. I have to cast on 3sts & the first & subsequent 32 rows begin 'yfwd, k whatever the number is'.

How the heck do I begin a row with a yfwd?

I think I'm being a bit dim, but I just don't get it Embarassed

It's design 'The Old Favourite' page 6 in case any else has the book to hand.

Its when you bring your yarn to the front of your needle at the beginning of the row and then take it over the top of the needle and start knitting as usual.

I can see it in my head but I really dont think iwrote that down very clearly Embarassed

I did a few of those blankets but they were K1 yfwd. That's a new one for me too. I know I would be pulling doing that, would ahve to watch the tension.

Exactly as Binty says.

Or think of it like this

Hold your needles and yarn as normal, but instead of holding the yarn behind the right hand needle hold it in front. Then knit the stitch as normal - the yarn will go over and round the right hand needle and form a yarnover.

Are you a member of knitting daily? If you are have a look at the pattern for Better than Booties - the explanation of yarnovers for the heel is exactly the same as you're trying to do, and I think it's got drawings.

Hope you work it out Jo - this is excatly the sort of thing I have problems with too!! I must say it sometimes happens that when you are actually knitting and try it, it suddenly makes sense IYSWIM when it didn't just reading it.

It's just the same as doing a YO, it'll give you a little row of loops along the edge of your blankie, if you look at this picture of my Moonlight Sonata Shawl you'll see what i mean i hope

Have you ever knit a "Grandmother's Favourite" dishcloth? That's usually K1, YO, Knit however many... it just means you are increasing on the bias (think that's the right term Confused

)

I did a few dishcloths last year when I got a bargain bag of cotton from ebay. I did the cast on 1st then it was k1 yo k every row. For some reason the cast on corner curled up, it was so annoying as the rest of the square and cast off end were flat. I must have done soemthing wrong
