Hi, my name is Craftybernie
Hello from the Isle of Man:
I don't frequent many forums as I already do wayyyyy too much! But I was obviously delighted to discover this UK crafting forum. It's nice to meet people who are also close to home. I've already spotted some familiar faces here too!
I'm basically a craftaholic with my crafty fingers in lots of crafty pies. I knit and crochet these days but I do dabble in the following crafts too:
Card making & paper crafts
Sewing
Felting (not needle)
Scrapbooking
Napkin Decoupage
Quilling
Embroidery & Cross Stitch
Making Flower Fairies (http://www.fairystuff.blogspot.com)
I have two goals this year (apart from trying to manage everything I do better):
1) to learn to spin. I'm keen to have a go at using a drop spindle and I am in the process of searching for a spinner here on the IOM to teach me. I'm not looking to spin enough wool to make a sweater, but I want to try to understand the process better!
2) to make felted soap. I'm waiting on an order of some wool roving to arrive in the post (hopefully today or tomorrow) so I can get started on this one.
Nice to meet you all and sorry I went on a bit! Best wishes...Bernie

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Piglottie: I don't know about the sock a month - are you trying to kill me? Maybe once I get ISE out of the way then I can think about it. Afterall, I do have that rather nice skein of STR wool that my pal sent me. Yum...
Felted soap: is made just like wet felting where you lay layers of wool at different angles on top of each other. Except here you felt directly over a bar of soap by covering the soap with the different layers of wool. You then cover it with a stocking/tights, wet it and gently rub until it begins to felt. (The stocking holds the wool together until it starts to felt.)
The wool will then adhere to itself creating a cover around the soap. Gently remove the stocking as soon as the wool begins to 'felt' and continue squishing and mushing it about until all the fibres have stuck together. You then have felted soap. Apparently it is quite pleasant, the soap lasts longer, and the felt provides a gentle exfoliating surface.
You can also add different fibres or even grains for extra exfoliation. If this works out and I'm happy with the results, I forsee presents all round and a very clean 'holiday season' ahead of me.
Some people knit 'soap socks' and pop the bar of soap inside. Then they give them as presents. As people 'wash' themselves with it the wool gradually felts over time.
Murdo: Thanks! I loves me fairies!!!
Thanks again everyone!

Yes it is!!! It's an Amigurumi Amineko, one of the first I made.
His/her name is Ceefer.
(he? she) Ceefer is 'A' sexual, kinda like Barney but obviously not purple, unless you're colour blind and well, then I'm not sure what colour he would be!
Here's a piccie on my blog: http://craftybernie.blogspot.com/2006/08/amigurumi-amineko.html

Hi Craftybernie,
Welcome to our forum - hope you enjoy it here.
I have visited your flower fairies blog before, they are adorable

Thanks Jacquie. They're really great fun to make although it's been a while. I must try and get my hands on some of the packets/jars of silk flowers that are available now for scrapbooking etc.... Much nicer than pulling apart old silk flowers from charity shops!!!

Hello Craftybernie and welcome to the forum

I think the Isle of Man may be taking over.
If the proportion of the membership is related to the population, we should only have about 0.2 of you, and isn't ClaireUK a Manxwoman?
Where are those daleks when you need them....

Aw, geesh, you guys! What a nice welcome!
Really. The Isle of Man is taking over??? You'd never know.
I've only met 3 crafters since I moved here 5 years ago! And I remember bumping into a knitter on the Angel Yarns forum once. Does that count?
I think I'll change my signature to "I craft and knit alone...!"

Maybe it's the Irish, not the Manx that be taking over? Aaarggh!

So long as it's sock yarn I do Debs. Some members buy bags and bags of yarn!
There are quite a few of us K1B2 members here CraftyBernie.

For those of you who might be interested, here's a link I found to a good tut on making felted soaps. My merino arrived so I can't wait to have a go. Maybe me and the lil 'un can have some clean soapy fun tomorrow. Watch this space...
