Hi, I'm ArtnikHi, my name's Katrin. I'm an American who's recently moved to the UK, where my husband is going to grad school. We live with our three cats in a tiny flat in the heart of Exeter. I'm loving it here so far - and really hoping to find gainful employment soon!
I love doing all sorts of crafts, especially knitting and sewing. I had to leave most of my yarn and fabric stashes behind when I moved, and I'm trying to keep things streamlined and not accumulate too many unused supplies here. I'm very into using reclaimed materials - more likely to browse thrift shops for sweaters to unravel than spend money on new yarn (I'm a cheapskate! I mean...I'm environmentally conscious!).
I usually make up my own knitwear rather than follow patterns, but I've yet to design anything officially for others' use - that may be something I try this year. I'm also trying to get over being intimidated about drafting my own sewing patterns. I had to get rid of my pattern stash too, so there's a good excuse for starting over from scratch.
I'm really excited to have found this forum and am looking forward to meeting (online and maybe even in person) more crafty types in the area.

Hi Katrin,
Welcome to the forum - I got the anagram too, but carolinne and I are sisters and we both have the sort of brain that looks for patterns and special meanings in things.
I am in the boat going the opposite way to you - I am a Brit in the USA. We have been here for 9 years and were here originally for my DH's job but we like it and are nearly at the end of the permanent residence processing tunnel.
Hope you enjoy being here and learn to fully appreciate the British sense of humour.
