Help with "Sock Stew" pattern

I'm just trying to work the heel on the Sock Stew pattern, and I'm having a spot of bother.

It says
"short row 3
k to the last but one stitch before the last wrapped stitch, w&t
short row 4
p to the last but one stitch before the last wrapped stitch, w&t"

Am I reading this right in that only every alternate stitch will be wrapped with an unworked stitch between?  I've only ever done one short row heel before and I'm sure it wasn't like this - mind you, I have had to increase from 28 to 44 stitches on the heel needle (doing 2 circs method) which I didn't last time.

Please help, I'm so confused  Confused

Hmm, just had a look and you are reading it right, it does say that you leave a stitch between the wrapped ones  Confused  Not the way I've ever done a short row heel, but I really not an expert on those!  And it looks as if the designer has already gone in and made revisions to the pattern, so if it was a mistake then surely it would have been corrected by now  Confused

So, all I can suggest is that you have to bite the bullet and give it a go and see how it works out.  Maybe worth putting in a lifeline before you start on it so that you can easily rip back if you do have to?

Hope it works out, let us know?  I'm always interested in finding out about new ways of doing heels and toes  Very Happy  Fingers crossed for you  Very Happy

Hmmm - that's a bit confusing. I'm not sure you do wrap every other stitch. I read it as saying:

short row 3
k to the last but one stitch before the last wrapped stitch I read this as saying you knit up to the stitch before the wrapped stitch, w&t I think this means wrap and turn the next stitch
short row 4
p to the last but one stitch before the last wrapped stitch, w&t

Guess that just confuses you! Did you look on Ravelry for any comments/posts about the pattern?[/b]

I looked at the pattern you mean last night and have no clue how to do short row heels so I can't offer any advice.... however..... I do know the designer from a couple of Rav forums and she's lovely! I'm sure she won't mind you asking her about the pattern.  Cool

Ok so I tried the pattern as I was reading it - and thank you Fatcat for the lifeline suggestion - although it turned out more or less heel shaped it was rather on the shallow side.....

....so I tried the other one in the way Sprite was reading the pattern ( and yes I can read it that way now that you have explained it) and I think  Sprite is very clever at deciphering unusually written patterns - heel version 2 actually looks like a heel, and what's more it fits better - so I'm off to frog first one and aim for a matching pair  Very Happy

Thanks folks.

Glad you've sorted it!

Oh hey, that's great news.  Glad the lifeline suggestion was helpful - it's saved me a few times with heels I've been uncertain about  Very Happy

Good that you've got a heel you're happy with, looking forward to seeing the finished pair   Very Happy

Sounds like a spot of punctuation would've helped Wink - glad it's all sorted.
