Help me choose ;-)

I got the yarn for Narvik last year when Rowan 42 came out but I'm having doubts about it now as I don't think it will be very flattering on me - it has drop shoulders, very wide sleeves and no shaping (I planned to make it longer). Should I frog and make something else like Lyra ?? I think the Narviks on Ravelry have put me off a bit - see them here .

I have so far made about 3/4 of the back of Narvik. The yarn - Cocoon - is absolutely gorgeous and I want to make something I will actually wear with it as it was expensive.

I love it! I think the ones on Ravelry are lovely (although I'm not sure about a couple of the colour choices! Wink )  I think (with the utmost delicacy!) as long as you hoist your jubblies up where they should be by wearing a good bra, it will be lovely.

I prefer Lyra to Narvik, though its hard to see what the neck looks like as its hidden behind all that hair. If you think you will wear Lyra but not Narvik then go for it.
dreamcatcher

I definitely prefer Lyra  Very Happy
cazzie

I like Narvik - some look better than others - I would be tempted to narrower sleeves though   Very Happy
carolinne

lyra definately
melody yarns

I bought the Cocoon book from JL the other week - definitely Lyra cos I bought the book just for that design  Wink
janice

I too have the Cocoon book (yep from JLs  Laughing ) and I would say Lyra as well. I'm thinking of knitting it for myself  Very Happy

Another person who bought the Cocoon book here.  I would go for Lyra too but I like Narvik as well.

I love cocoon.  I made Neaty from Rowan 42 and its so very cosy and cuddly to wear.

I love Lyra too - the only thing is I had imagined it in the green in the book not in black which it would be if I frog Narvik - hmmmm Confused

I think Narvik - esp as it appears in the mag here is more 'catwalk' than Lyra which is a pretty but very classic style. It's whether I can carry off something like Narvik when I'm not a beanpole any more Wink - so many Rowan styles are boxy/drop shoulder/dolman styles these days - 90s style must be very in at the moment Laughing

This is Narvik with slightly slimmer sleeves as published in Vogue Holiday 2007 here . Perhaps this is more flattering??
Wildpurl

I don't think that Narvik will suit your lovely curvy hourglass figure, although you could possibly try the belt technique from the last photo. I'm not sure that Lyra would work either, and I agree with you about teh colour. I think it would be worth looking for something new, maybe along the lines of Ariann, or Urban Aran Cardigan, I'm not sure if the gauges are right, but the shaping is what I was thinking of.

I love the look of Narvik in Rowan 42 but the ones on Ravelry seem disappointing. I much prefer raglan/fitted sleeves.
Jobo

I like Lyra better. Very Happy

I was only thinking last night how I wish Rowan would bring out a double knit version of Cocoon - it feels so lovely on the ball, but I do hate knitting with chunky Very Happy
franney

Right, i'm going straight in for the controversy!
I love Narvik, it's interesting and will be fab for layering, Lyra looks really boring and safe! I shall now retreat to my corner where i don't knit jumpers so i don't really have anything at all to base my opinion on! Laughing

No franney - I want everyone to be honest!!! There are things I love about Narvik - it is very interesting as you say, the basketweave stitch on the back and sleeves is gorgeous in the Cocoon, I love the cabled intarsia front - really unusual, it's very 'Rowan' IYKWIM. It is the sort of thing people will come up to you and ask about (if they are knitters) - I don't think they'd do that with Lyra.

On the other hand Lyra is pretty and sweet and much easier - I tried a bit of the intarsia cabling and it was fiddly Laughing

Its funny really - it is all about why we knit what we do isn't it?
KnittingLadybird

TBH I don't particularly like either. I think i'd something totally different Smile
I like Neaty
