Heather Hoodie KAL anybody?Well, I should be spinning and I should be finishing my MH cardi and my Babette blanket, but in fact I have cast on for the Heather Hoodie from Knitscene Fall 2009.
I am knitting it in Colinette Prism from stash (pause to hear admiring gasps ), in a colour called Windfall, which I bought ages ago to make the Ballet wrap from another Knitscene.
The colours mean that the cables don't pop like they would in a plain colour, but they still add interest, and it's a fast knit and I think it's the kind of thing I will wear lots. Maybe I'll make one in a plain colour when I've finished this one, who knows?
Anyway, I wondered if anyone else was knitting this or fancied joining in?
Here's mine so far (this is the back):

I think DC is knitting this? - I'm not sure for me (can't get the link or Ravelry up to see the pattern atm ). I meant to get a copy of Knitscene but my LYS isn't taking it anymore.
Yours looks lovely in the Colinette though

I'm knitting it So far I've got the back and left front completed. Mine is in Sirdar Denim Chunky in a lovely cream/beigy marl, the cables are popping! I love the Prism, it will make a great hoodie I think terri is making this too.

Goodness look at those cables!!! Stunning!!!
I've just been looking at this and I love it (finally got the link to work for me after rebooting the router ) and there are a couple of others I like in the mag so will order a copy. I won't be joining straight away as I am trying to stick with finishing one thing at a time (I know ) and am doing well with Bertha .
The FOs on Rav all look gorgeous though!!
ETA it also depends on me finding someting I can use from stash I don't have a lot of chunky or stuff at that guage.

Ooh I could easily be tempted...

So could I.
I had a quick look earliei but we had to go out before I could reply.... I have plenty of chunky I could use from stash to knit that in! Yippeeeee!!
|
Glynis
|
Ah, now there's the rub! I've no chunky yarn in stash nor do I have a copy of the pattern (yet )
|

I really like it but not the short sleeves, I prefer long. I did a cable cardi in chunky last year but I looked like the michelin man so it got ripped out. It is a lovely hoodie though, can't wait to see them finished

Don't worry, I haven't got a copy of the pattern yet either Glynis
|
Wildpurl

I saw some people on Rav had knitted it with two strands of yarn held together...
I hardly ever have chunky either, I was lucky with the Prism. Yours is gorgeous Dreamcathcer! I love the cool creamy colour

Oooh that's a thought!!! Is it 2 DK = Chunky (can never remember).

I may have something I can use

This is a fab pattern but i'm another without either yarn or the pattern and seriously too much on the go. I shall watch with interest (and envy).

Hee heee!! I've just ordered my pattern and I have lots of yarn to choose from so I'm officially in! As long as my pattern arrives that is

I started last month. Using some bargainous Inca from kemps, I've done the back and both fronts, just need to attempt the hood now...................... Looks like it comes out big according to stitchywithc on ravelry
|

|
Just remembered I've also got some Sirdar Peru I could use for this in a nice aqua/beigey brown mix So I just need a pattern now
|
Wildpurl
|
ooh Peru, lovely! The colours sound nice. I'd better get on or one of you will finish before me LOL
Inca would be lovely tooTerri.
I'm glad to hear it comes out a bit big - I took a risk and am knitting a size with no ease

I've been knitting away at this and have finished the back and both fronts, which are all blocking at the moment. I'm looking forward to starting the sleeves and hood now.
With a bit of luck I'll finish it and be able to wear it this autumn LOL
How's everyone else getting on?
|
KnittingLadybird

can you buy this pattern on it's own?....i'm really wanting this (have already added to stash in anticipation lol)
|
Wildpurl

It was in Knitscene Fall 2009 so probably not yet available in the Interweave store - but I haven't checked - and I'm sure it will be, it seems very popular.
What you got in stash for it?

My pieces are joined at the shoulders and blocked - need to get on with finishing but have been distracted by hats and socks!

I just have the bands to knit now, but haven't got a circular that will do
|
Wildpurl

Gosh, I'd better get a move on then! Look forward to seeing some pics!

I've done the sleeves now and am racing through the hood. As soon as I put the sleeves on it started to look like a propoer garment. OH said last night that it is the nicest thing I have knitted so far!
I think it's gorgeous, one of the nicest things I've made. It's such a fab pattern and so easy to knit.
I've taken a photo of it laid out flat and I'll try to get a modelled shot later on.
I'd quite like to make a plain one as well, so the cabling would show up better...

Oooh well done Carol!! Looking forward to seeing it

I pinned mine on Friday night but haven't had a chance to sew it up today - hoping to do so tomorrow. I finished my KSH cardi piece last night so it's a good juncture to get this hoodie completed!
|
terri
|
I'm thinking I might try to do the bands of mine today with two circs rather than one Then it'll need blocking, but if I leave it much longer, it'll still be hiding next winter
|

So that's 3 to look forward to soon

Here are some interim photos, inlcuding a modelled shot. I've completed the hood and sewn in all the ends, but not yet done the button bands.I have put in some threads on the RHS to show where the buttonholes should go. I I plan to do the button bands in crochet, a la Jobo, it's so much easier .
This is the hoodie yesterday, after I had just started the hood:
And this morning after the hood was finished:
And a few modelled shots:
I have found some suitable buttons for it in stash this morning so I am well pleased

That looks fantastic!

Ooooh that is going to be so gorgeous!!! The colours are amazing
|
Wildpurl
|
Thanks!
The colours have come out well - I was quite uncertain about using a colured yarn because of the cables, but I'm pleased with the result. I think the plain coloured ones I have seen are just as nice, though, it really is a versatile garment.
I just love it
Oh well, better get on and finsih it now LOL

I'm crocheting as fast as I can but Mr Wildpurl is making me help chop apples for his cider which is slowing things down LOL

Ali, I think this would be lovely in Peru.
|
terri

The colour of yours is lovely Carol!!!! It looks nice in a variagated yarn
Just finished mine, needs a good blocking though!
This is my 40th FO of 2009!!!!

Not including Jackson Ali!!!!!! I've got a few things almost done too, I think I might get to 52 by the end of December. Jackson is playing more and more now though and doesn't sleep so much, so knitting time is starting to drop
|
Glynis
|
Oh aren't they both lovely!
You are all right, this pattern looks wonderful in both plain and varigated yarns. I bet theyll get loads of compliments.
|
pictish

Now I think that's very selfish of him 52 would be a huge achievement wouldn't it - one a week and a lot of those have been big things!!

Carola and Sarah...they are gorgeous hoodies, love the colours of them both
I think you need to slow down Sarah....though I bet you've put a bit of a dent in your stash

Great!! Looking forward to seeing it - it does look lovely in all the projects on Rav, a bit like the CPH I think in that respect.
Thanks for that Kate

These are both lovely - super colours too.

Oh they are both gorgeous and now i want one!
I'm off to check out Rav for yarn requirements
|
Dorcas

They are both lovely. Isn't it amazing how the same garments, made from the same pattern can look so different, and unique
|
Wildpurl
|
Umm well, slight hiccup - I did the bands in double crochet, and have finished them, but now I don't like how they look, so I am going to rip them back and redo in the original ribbing, as I think it will look better. It's a bit of a design feature in this hoodie and it just doesn't look right in crochet. Oh. well, live and learn LOL. Only another two nights
|
pictish
|
Best for it to be right though!! It's so lovely you want to be happy with it
|
Wildpurl
|
That's what I thought, too. I was going to try blocking them but overnight I have realised that I'm just not happy with how they look. Then I looked again at Terri's and I think that compared with hers the crochet bands are too firm and don't go with the drape of the fabric. Hers looks much nicer than mine does atm. I'd rather redo them than spoil it, as you say - and it won't take long.
|
terri
|
I've had mine on today because it's freezing here! It's lovely and snuggly, but the hood is MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! absolutely no way the hood is useable
|
pictish
|
It looks a bit big in the pics I think
|
terri
|
when I put it up, it looked like I was in fancy dress parading as death!!!!!! seriously Good job I made it in blue, not black
|
pictish
|
I don't use the hood on my CPH much but it's a bit pointless having a hood you don't want to use at all
|
Glynis
|
I like the way a hood makes an extra layer across the top of my back, even if I don't want to use it properly as a hood. I find it very cosy
|
Wildpurl
|
Yes, I agree with Glynis, I don't think I ever really wear hoods, but they look nice as an alternative to a collar and they add warmth.
Well the bands are all ripped back and I have cast on my 258 stitches and have knitted two rows. I think it's going to be much better. I'm exhausted now, though, so I'll try to do some more tomorrow evening.

Just finished my hood tonight, I like it being on the slouchy side. Definitely nice and warm as a collar and will certainly cover your head if need be
|

|
Sewed the buttons on this afternoon and it's all finished I'm wearing it now and it's so cosy and comfy. DH says it's like the hoodie tops from Robin Hood, I tend to agree with him! I'm certainly thinking about making another one at some point, maybe in a darkish green .... Pictures tomorrow!

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures, it's a lovely pattern.

I finished mine while on holiday in Devon this last week. I love it and have worn it all week. It's warm and practical as well as lovely. I have a few photos of it out and about, and will try to post some tomorrow. For now I'm just enjoying having internet access after a week with no network connection LOL
