Hanami - Finished with Photos

I cast this on yesterday...

I am part way through the first repeat of the basket weave pattern

this is for a friends 40th birthday at the end of July... it's from Pink Lemon Twists if any of you need any encouragement Razz

I am using a polychrome lace yarn from Yarntree House off Ebay (I can recommend her for service). The yarn by itself is too fine for the pattern (16m/g) so I've wound my two balls together to get the right guage (8m/g) and I should have enough yarn with the two balls by my calculations. I'm using this beautiful lilac shade too

I did do the bead cast on my own way as my beads were smaller and I didn't have a crochet hook that fitted the hole... so I improvised with my trusty thumb cast on method and positioning the beads where I wanted them....

beautiful, Littleberry, I love that pattern which I spotted a couple of weeks ago but have resisted so far, the colour is lovely too Very Happy

This will be good to see in a colour... wasn't the original in cream?

I think it was, I don't do cream/white very well.... Embarassed

I'm hoping by winding the two balls together it will minimize the striping effect of the yarn and make it a more unified colour(they started at different places in the balls)
LittleBerry

I am really pleased with how this is turning out.... the photo doesn't show it very well.. but it is changing colour slightly.... The yarn itself is quite subtly shaded over long colour repeats but because I've wound two balls together I think it's going to be even more subtle Very Happy

This is the 2nd rpt of basketweave....
Piglottie

That is looking gorgeous, i can't wait to see how the colour changes come out, you can see a slight variation already can't you. How exciting! Smile
LittleBerry

I've more or less made it to the halfway stage with this now. I've been calculating the yarn useage as I've been going along and have managed to get an 8th repeat of the basket weave pattern out of the yarn rather than the standard 7; I really don't want any yarn left over as I just bought the two balls.....

Am really pleased with how it's coming out, the photo empasises the colours....

I don't think it will be quite finished before I start the Mystery Stole KAL though but wont be far off....
Glynis

n

Verry nice.
How does the weight of the yarn you used compare to my lace yarn... would that need to be doubled too?

n
LittleBerry

when doubled this yarn came out at 8 m/g where yours is 14m/g singly doubled yours would just be a little thicker.....

edited to add: I think you would still need to have two hanks of yours n, as I used all but 10g (extra repeat at each end) and each ball was 62.5g

I have to say a nice Merino laceweight at around the 8 - 10 m/g mark would be good as reading comments on various forums a lot of people are finding the finer laceweight difficult to handle and off putting (no offense to any dyer etc just my observation)......
