Granny-along

Bit late for crochet week - but just found this blog
loobyj

There are some very tasteful squares there - and some that remind me of all that's unholy about granny squares!!!!

I love grannies, imade a 5' sqaure granny blanket a coupe of years ago which made me hate grannies but since i swa Jan Eatons books (and met her too!!) i have been feeling the urge again Laughing
FatCat

me too, love 'em! They're so quick and easy to carry around to do a bit here and there. A couple of years ago I did a blanket in 3 inch grannies and it's great. Took a while though! Very Happy

Haven't picked up my crochet hooks in ages, been too busy with socks! But I might have to dig them out again at some point soon.
loobyj

The worst thing about granny blankets is making them up afterwards. Which is why my last few have been just one gi-normus granny square.

I've got the Jan Eaton book, but haven't ever made anything from it Embarassed

yeah, the sewing up is a right old pain Rolling Eyes I even put a border on mine, was feeling especially dedicated!

I've got a Jan Eaton book too - Start Crochet. I've a plan to make the Harlequin Afghan with my sock yarn leftovers. No timescale on that plan though, probably once I get to the stage of not being able to move for sock yarn leftovers! Laughing
loobyj

Hmm, that's a good idea with sock leftovers..... I've got lots of golf ball size oddities everywhere. Now, in fact that's turned into a project in planning, just like that - cos I've also got loads (don't ask) of Patons 4ply Diploma in chocolate brown that I could link it all together with.

Thanks FC!

wow, loobyj, you're thanking little old me? Cor! toothy7 Cool

*feels useful for once and all warm inside*

My pleasure my dear! Glad to be of service Laughing Looking forward to the pics. Do you have a particular pattern in mind, or just straightforward grannies?
loobyj

I think I'd like to do something a bit different to straightfoward grannies - I've got a poncho pattern where the squares have a sort of flower in them, that might be nice I thought.

Honestly FC, I'm really enthused about this - you just might have given me some mojo back Laughing

Piccies in due course!

Jobo

I expect you know already but you can crochet grannies together - probably quicker than sewing. Very Happy

Laughing Sorry just had an image in my mind about a queue of crocheted together grannies at the post office Laughing
FatCat

LOL at Jobo! Laughing

and hurrah for giving loobyj her mojo back, if of course it turns out to be true .... Wink

Which Jan Eaton book have you got? Mine's got lots of different squares/motifs which would look nice as an afghan-ey kinda thing. And of course there are lots of different squares on Crochet Pattern Central .

OK, I'll stop now ... Laughing

chris simon's crochet squares .....I love some of these but check out yo-yo squares...faberoony
Glynis

My crochet skills are poor. I have a fairly large square "blanket" I started crocheting in the late sixties and it is still unfinished...I think I've lost heart on that one now!
My daughter's Mother-out-of-law admits to still owning a half-finished baby vest fifty years on!

Actually the reason I was typing at all was because I noticed recently that the Natural Dye Studio has a Granny Club. It's like a sock club but you get yarn to make Granny squares!!!
Loopy

I have decided to try my hand at crochet. some of those squares are fab and look like just the sort of t hing that I could practise wiht Very Happy
