good crochet book?I already have happy hooker, but am looking for a british crochet book, cos the american terms keep confusing me compared to what my mum calls everything.
Can anyone recommend a good crochet book with techniques/stitches/patterns in? I can do the basics, but want something as a reference so I can start crocheting patterns at last. I did have the beginner's book by pauline turner, but found that really dull, so sold it. Does anyone have any other ideas what I can buy? thanks.

I have several that I've found useful - have the basics (UK) and some nice patterns too. I've never got the hang of the American terms So my recommendations are:
Simple Crochet by Erika Knight (patterns are for things around the house, cushions, throws etc)
Start Crochet by Jan Eaton
Learn to Crochet by Sally Harding
Just checked on Amazon and they're all there and still in print.
HTH!

I really like the Erika Knight book - good clear pics, nice designs with suggestions for alternative yarns and so on.

thanks.
I've ordered the erika knight book, and a beginner's book by susie johns - it's the rowan one, i think - as it's spiral bound and got good reviews on amazon!!

For a stitch guide, rather than specific patterns, I like the Harmony Guide to Crochet Stitches. My copy is about 20 years old, and I still dip into it on a regular basis. I don't know if it's still available new, but if you can find one second-hand, I highly recommend you snap it up immediately!
