Getting a little dauntedI'm beginning to get a bit daunted by all these second/third/fourth pairs that people are producing at an alarming rate! As far as I'm aware you only get one turn in the draw no matter how many pairs you produce.
There's some lovely sock knitting going on, there really is, but I for one will find it difficult to keep up soon.
This isn't a criticism or a "get at" anyone - honestly - it's just an observation.
Hope I don't come across as too grumpy.

Joy i'm beginning to feel the same too lol...i got off to such a flying start but now i'm finding it hard too...allbeit my socks were smaller this month as they were for DD's but ones a size 4 and the other a size 5...not that bloomin small!!! (although they were trainer socks and the next pair only ankle socks...).

Dont worry you are not alone - I'm probably going to miss this month so I can finish some of my UFOs

Don't worry, I've just started mine too.
It's one chance per month, whether you knit one pair or eleven pairs.
And since we all get to see them as WIP's, it would take someone quite astonishingly devious to post photos of socks they knitted four months before, together with all the WIP photos as well.
It's all done on trust, and I just love seeing all the photos, and the patterns.
I really want to try a slip stitch pattern, before I launch into the Fiesta Feet! socks for real.
Maybe we should have a Fiesta Feet! KAL?

I started so well in January - had the first pair finished by the 8th, but haven't even started March's yet and haven't really an inclination to either, still another 20 days to go though!!!

I've yet to finish a pair this year

I've still to finish a pair!!! Although I do have mitigating circumstances (ie surgery and missing mojo). Was working on socks tonight though, so might get a pair finished some time this year.
Just read my posts Joy and you'll feel like a super speedy sock knitter. On average, going on past form, it usually takes me about 4-6 months to finish a pair

I am not good at making the links look professional...

Do you see why a KAL might be a good idea?
If you search for the pattern on Google you can find it knitted up, in various colourways on several blogs.
The top is sideways garter stitch... I had wondered about substituting 2 colour rib, like the one in the jumper in the current issue if Interweave Knits.

I'm just pleased your Mojo is back from it's travels
I know it's not compulsory to enter but my sock yarn is increasing faster than I can churn socks out I can tell you.
I've read back to the beginning of this lovely idea of terri's when I said something like "sock a year will be more like it for me" so I am improving.
I am loving seeing everyone's progress photos too

I'm laughing Joy, I started my first sock towards the end of January having never knitted a sock in my life. I can feel my hands knitting socks when I don't have yarn or needles in my hands !!!!
It will wear off but for now it's a compulsion.................I'm finding it very hard to knit anything else......... mind you I'm not on my 4th March pair yet...............

Well I have to admit that I'm still on the cuff of the first sock of my February/March pair of socks.... and they 've been in that state for well over a month now. Ho hum.
I was at the back of the queue when quick knitting genes were handed out I'm afraid

I'm in a knitting rut just now, finished DH's socks as my March entry about a week ago but can't be bothered to photo them.
Can't be bothered to do any more socks just now so I'm having a break from them until April.
Don't like any of my other wips at the mo so can't be bothered with them.
Maybe its my turn for the lack of Mojo this week.

You old grumpy-pants you No, seriously, good point. I hold my hand up as a sock-knitting demon. Just the one hand, obviously the other is holding a part-finished sock.
Sorry I get phases when I have to knit socks, just socks, lots and lots of socks, and then the mood leaves me and I knit other things. Never meant to offend or put pressure on anyone. Just the one pair from me this month and possibly none at all next month

I don't think anyone should be getting daunted. This is just a bit of fun. I certainly knit socks as and when I feel like it, and like FC, I feel like it at the moment

been thinking about this one. Trying not to make mountains out of molehills but .....obviously I don't want people to feel daunted, but on the flip side I don't want to get to the point where I feel I can't post my socks up in case it upsets people
And I take the point that I can post up in What I Made, but I might be working on several pairs in a month and not decide which ones to enter in SAM until the last day, so personally I'd still like to put progress pics in the SAM area. What to do? And no, knitting less socks isn't really an option for me ....
|

I absolutely agree that you shouldn't feel like you can't post piccies of socks without upsetting anybody, we love seeing what everyone has made
BUT, equally, some people are feeling disheartened/daunted/whatever, by the fact that they aren't matching the volume of socks that others are making. Its no good saying people shouldn't be daunted, they obviously are, hence this thread! what we need to do is come up with something that all our members are happy with, cos we value you all equally and we don't want anybody to feel that their contribution is less important than anyone elses:wink:
we'll see what we can come up with, feel free to offer solutions guys!!!!!

sorry everyone!
It's not "the best socks" that win as far as I understand - terri am I right? - ( and 100 apologies to Linz and Sandra because obviously their socks were fabulous socks ) but it's more kind of like buying a raffle ticket and being the lucky winner drawn out of the hat - so technically it wouldn't matter WHICH pai of your lovely socks you knitted that month were entered it's the entering that counts not the actual socks. I think!
So anyone could knit as many socks as they liked, post them in the Look What I Made Section, progress so far, wherever, and pics are good and great and wonderful and I for one LOVE them. Then choose whichever you want to enter right on the last day if you want to.
My thread wasn't meant to offend or criticise or get at anybody - honest - and I'm learning a lot while I'm knitting socks too, and by the end of the month I may well have another pair to enter, who knows. But I also work, pretty much full time, as do most of us, we all have other pressures and outside interests.
I just don't want Sock a Month to lose the "fun" element and get too competitive. Sorry if this offends anyone!!!!!!

We mods have been chatting this over, and just to re-iterate, the basic Sockamonth Challenge rules are as follows:
- you can knit as many or as few pairs of socks as you like during the Sockamonth Challenge. There is no maximum limit or minimum limit per month or during 2007.
- the entry for a particular month needs to be completed, but not necessarily started, in that month
- members will only be entered once per month for the draw regardless of how many socks are knitted in a specific month
- as long as 12, 6 or 3 pairs of socks are knitted and completed during 2007, then you may qualify for the gold, silver and bronze Sockamonth buttons respectively.
There seems a little confusion over the rules of the draw per month. Regardless of how many pairs of socks that are knitted in a particular month, or how simple or complex they are, big or small they are, the entrant will only be entered into the draw once in that month that a pair of socks have been completed.
For example, when I did the February draw, I put everyone's name into Dan's Hallowe'en bucket {who had completed a pair of February socks} once only, and then asked Danny to draw the winner out. So please rest assured that the draw is fair to everyone who enters in any particular month, fast or slow knitters alike.
Terri started the Sockamonth Challenge off as a challenge to herself to knit 12 pairs of socks in 2007, and as a result the sockamonth Challenge was born. It's a light-hearted way to challenge everyone to try to knit 12 pairs of socks in 2007 - some of us will do it, some of us won't, but let's try to keep the challenge light-hearted and fun!

and i was only posting all my entries under the relevant month so i wouldn't forget how many i had made. sorry for being dim.

Whilst we're on this thread, can I clarify where we should post our progress pictures and where we post our entries cos I'm a lot confused. I thought we were supposed to post our progress pictures in Sock-a-month and the entry into the draw in the sub forum for the relevant month? Can anyone clear this up for me?
|
jacquie
|
Ok. Progress pictures go in your own thread under the relevant month's sub-forum.
Candidates for the draw will all go in one thread at the top level. March's is not there yet, but it will be a sticky called something like March's Entries. Everyone who posts their socks there will be entered for that month's draw.
We have done it like that so you can show your progress, and they can be admired by others, in the one thread, but then separately we have a clean thread with just the entries in so we don't accidentally miss anyone.

Thanks Jacqui, was nearly right but still confused. I'll try to get it "right" for next month!!!

Don't worry. I literally went through all the entries and threads for February to ensure that everyone who had finished their socks was entered into the draw. I then asked another moderator to confirm the list of entrants so that this list was double checked. Only then did the draw take place .

Without wishing to draw this out - can i add that as one of the slower sock knitters I love seeing everyone elses socks and have no problem with how many anyone knits - I joined this as a motivation to get knitting socks and I've done what I wanted and got started.
Please keep knitting everyone and posting - I love seeing your piccies and getting lots of ideas
Just to add - not getting as much knitting time as I'd like at the mo - what with flu bugs, stomach bugs and life at work being manic (to point of bringing it home at night)

I can see both sides.
It would not be a positive thing if people felt despondent, on the other hand, it is just marvellous to see all these socks.
As someone who has 60 kilos of undyed yarn in the house, I was still tempted by some Jitterbug a few weeks ago, and it is entirely the fault of you lot!!!
(It's destined to be a tea cosy.)

I wouldn't even attempt to keep up with the speedy knitters. That would be like some form of self-torture! Eep! I do enjoy seeing all their creations though. Kudos to them.
Sock-a-Month is a fun personal challenge for me, having already decided before I found this forum that I wanted to knit 13 pairs this year. I'm in this for my enjoyment, not to get into a race with anyone.
I love knitting socks—at my own pace —and I love seeing all the different patterns and yarns that other people are using. My wish list is getting quite out of hand these days, mind, and all because of this place. Heehee.

My plan of action is to dedicate the first week of every month to knit 1 pair of socks...that leaves 3 weeks to get on with whatever is on the needles.
Now i'm putting it into practise (it has worked so far )
