Frilly edge

Hi,

I have figured out how to add a frilly edge using crochet to the pattern I've designed andit says it's called a shell pattern I think I justdouble crocheted 3 or 4 times into the same stitch on one section, but on another I have just done 3 in each

Before I ruin the edge I have got, can you use the same stitch again, or does it need to be broken up by something, I am thinking of adding another 2 rows increasing the number of double crochets on each round and on the last maybe doing tripples.  Don't want to spoil it by digging straight it took hours last night.  Not very famillier with crochet really, this is the first thing past a chain and a chained edge I have tried.
