ForumHum shutting down !!I have just received an email to say our host is shutting down so it looks like we will have to find a new place.
I have started a tentative look around to see if we can find another host that uses the same phpbb format where we can simply backup our current database and restore it on the new host. I was looking anyway as we are not getting a very good service at the moment.
We have until February 10th.
Obviously we will find a new home even if it does mean starting all over again.

Sorry to hear this, I don't know much about about forums and things so hope you find something. Though if you get stuck and can't find anywhere in time, I have a forum function that I can load onto my website, it's fairly basic but useable that you could use until something better comes along.

I have found our new home and this is the plan:
Tomorrow at midnight for you in the UK - 5.00pm for me in Utah I will make a backup of our database and get it transferred to the new board - member profiles, posts - everything.
When I have heard that the data has been transferred successfully and we have set up the admin side of things we will post here that we are ready for you all to come over.
I am hoping this won't be more than 24 hours.
It will be OK to keep posting here in the meantime but don't say anything you want to keep!
We will also send an APB email so we don't miss anyone.
Once we are happy that everyone knows where we are we will disable this board.

You are all making me feel like a bit of a fraud
The good guys at the new host are actually going to import the database.
The forum software is the same as this one - phpbb - so the database should be more or less the same format with a bit of tweaking here and there.
I shall be glad when it's all done and we are settled in there!

I am going to disable the old board at midnight GMT tomorrow (Feb 8th) I think. We are still getting undesirables trying to join, but everyone seems to have caught up with us over here now.
So if there are any posts that missed the Feb 2nd deadline that you want to keep over here then please copy and paste them into new posts before then. For example the February socks may not have made it over.
Thanks everyone. I think it was a relatively smooth transition with only one or two little hiccups on the way

Please, please, everyone update any links you may have to the old forum to the new one. The old link now redirects to a very undesirable place that I am pretty sure you won't want anyone else to find accidentally via your blog.

I think it might be a good idea to put this info in a new post with a clear title, so that no-one misses it. I only looked at this thread out of curiosity to see why it had come up again and it was only because Carola mentioned it that I thought to check my blog, where there was indeed a link to Mr S in one of my posts!
Hope I'm not treading on anyone's toes or coming over all school marmish. The site made me laugh actually but I definitely wouldn't want my kids or any of my less worldy friends coming across it by accident!
