Forestry (old penny) KALSO me and Ali are in....... anyone else care to join us????
You can see some finished ones on Rav here
|
Glynis
|
It is tempting...

Have you anything you can use Glynis??
I am going to use Yorkshire Tweed DK from stash Just going to see what I have - I think i will need 11.5 balls in the medium if I do that size. I'm still not decided whether I want this more a jacket over layers or as a fitted cardi like Stitchywitch has done hers in which case i'll go down a size.
I'm thinking of using a muted turquoise tweed. It knits up to the right guage on 4mm.
The Vogue site has a great video and you can see the jacket there which helps a lot.

It's a case of getting the magazine first

Have cast on for the medium in the end and done 1/2" - bit slow with this thick yarn on the small needles
Will take a pic tomorrow.

I'm really tempted by this but I'm brassic (?sp) at the moment and the only thing I have in stash is Jaeger Luxury Tweed DK which is 22 sts to 4in on 4mm so is probably a bit out gauge-wise? I've had this yarn in stash for about 2 years and I'd love to get rid of it but have yet to find the right pattern.

Oooh I love Luxury Tweed What colour have you got Linda? Just wondering whether you could go up a size with it for this??
|
ygymraes

I've got black/white and blue/white tweed (about 10-12 balls of each). Unfortunately I've left my Vogue magazine in work so can't check on sizes etc. until the morning.
|
terri
|
I think you could use that Linda!!!!
Thge gauge is 20sts on 4mm with the aran....... yours would be slightly less dense fabric thats all. Some people on ravelry have used a DK weight
So thats you in too????
|
ygymraes

Yep, count me in.
|
terri

yayyyyyyyy
I cast on for the back last night. It is a little slower going using aran on smaller needles, but thats ok I'm getting the boring bits out of the way first

What sizes are there? I am tempted but don't want to have to traipse about to find the magazine only to find out there isn't a 'fat' size

Janice the largest size is 52.75" (closed)
Terri it is slow on the rib I know The YT is more like a sport weight and it's not that nice to knit on 3.25mm Nearly done tho and then it's just straight st st up the back - unless I do cables of course I think I'll leave it plain tho.

Thanks Pictish, me thinks the next size down might fit nicely, will have to get a copy
|
pictish

Next size down is 49.5". For that you need 19 balls @ 85m.

That is a lovely pattern - I need to look at my Vogue mag properly I think!!
I could do this in Yorkshire Tweed DK, not sure when though, I have another cardi OTN but it's a very plain one from Sirdar Relaxed Weekend book.

This mine in the Yorkshire Tweed DK in Skip a sort of dull greeny blue It's a very nubbly tweed.

I really like that colour Ali!!!!!
I didn't even notice the pattern on first looking through the mag
|

Well I had queued it ages ago but I couldn't remember doing that It was Stitchywitch's that made me want one
How is yours coming along terri? Glad the rib's finished on mine
|
terri
|
Well, I had got through the decreases to the waist, then realised that I'd forgotten to do the 4 decreases across the first st st row So have had to frog back to after the rib, and working my way back up
Will take a picture when I get a little further. I like how its looking, but tbh would probably have preferred it in a darker colour. I'll wear it regardless though

Ali, I love the colour of yours.
If I'm getting 22 sts per 4 ins (the pattern states 20sts / ins), do you think mine will turn out larger? If so, could I possibly go down a size? My brain seems to have turned to sludge this afternoon and I can't work it out.
|

Oh poo!! Is it knitting up ok at that guage? I've never knitted in the YT DK before and it is very heavy going to knit with - not something that sort of flies along!!
I think the colour you've chosen will go with lots of things cos it's neutral IYSWIM It'll look stunning with black or dark brown

That's a really pretty colour Ali, looking good!
I found I'd already got the pattern queued in Rav too - have no memory of doing it though, must've been a while back

That's exactly the shade of YT I'm thinking of using, Ali! I also have Lime Leaf.
What is the yardage needed for a 36 or 38? (sorry am at work at the moment!)

Thanks!! No Linda it will be smaller if you have a tighter guage so I would go up a size!! Take the number of stitches, divide by 22 then multiply by 4 to give you the size in inches you get at that guage.
Thanks FC!!
DC I have Lime Leaf too plus some Slosh . 36.75 size takes 13 balls of 93 yds and size 40 takes 15 balls - I worked out I needed 11.5 balls of the YT for a size 40. YT = 120yds per ball.

Well I've just realised I cast on 2 stitches too many I'm not going back and doing that rib again so it is as it is and just won't go in as much at the waist as I can't fit in another decrease Such is life.

I'm onto the armhole decreases of the back, about 30 rows to go. Its coming along much faster now its the st st section.
I even split spliced my yarn when joining in the new ball

Those needles must be smoking!

wow, that's super fast! Any chance of a pic .....?
slightly off topic, I've never learned how to spit splice and I'm thinking it'd be dead handy to be able to do it. Does anyone know whether there's an online guide to it?
|
terri
|
I can't remember where I read about it.
It's soooooooo easy though. You just separate the ends of your yarn and then kind of twist them together. SPit on the join, and rub vigorously between the palms of your hand!!! The heat felts it, and apart formt he wet, you can't even tell where the join is!!!!!

I won't be starting until the weekend as I've got a baby cardi to finish first.
I'm also dithering on what size to make. (Thanks Ali for the instructions btw. ) I'm not sure whether to go for a 38" or a 40". I know there's not much in it and normally I would go for a 40, but I'm losing weight at the mo and don't want it to end up too big. Perhaps after 2 or 3 more days dithering I may finally make a decision.
|
pictish
|
Well it's funny you should say that Linda - that's the problem when you're losing weight isn't it!! I'm on a diet too and was havering about the size and went for the 40 but it's looking too big and am not altogether sure of my yarn choice either now I've knitted a bit up - it's looking a bit dense & rustic IKWIM It isn't the look I'm wanting. I'm going to see what else I have in stash that maybe knits to 19 st and I might go for the smaller size which will (hopefully) take me up to a 38". I'm not sure I have anthing tweedy that fits the bill tho .
So I wouldn't worry Janice .
