I've got Photobucket to use for uploading photos on here and FlickR for a 'mosaic' thingy on my blog. Find Photobucket a lot easier to use. Can upload pics on FlickR but thats about it.

oh well, I'll just have to stick to putting up links on here instead to my flickr file.

Can you see the difference CJ ? When I right click on the image in Flickr and look for properties and copy the image properties I can post the photgraph.
Good Luck

The only problem with Flickr is that in the terms it says that all images must link back to the respective photo's page...
What i do is this: (might end up a bit long winded, sorry!)
on the page where your chosen photo is displayed click on "all sizes" which is the fifth choice along from the left
At the top you are given various size choices for the photo, click the one you want and a box appears underneath it with loads of code in it - like this:
| Quote: | | <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/31555224@N00/1103297850/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1319/1103297850_e265bb83c5_t.jpg" width="100" height="75" alt="Cottage Garden detail" /></a> |
That's in HTML and you need to alter it to BBCode for it to work on the forum sooooo...
where it says <a href> you need to use the tag [url] and where it says <img src> you need to use the tag [img] and all the rest of it is not needed so with a bit of copy and pasting it turns out like this:
| Quote: | | [u rl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/31555224@N00/1103297850/][i mg]http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1319/1103297850_e265bb83c5_t.jpg[/img][/url] |
I've put a couple of spaces int here so that it doesn't work, otherwise you won't see the code
It really is a long winded way of doing it, that's why i signed up for an ImageShack account, you just copy the code they give you and don't need to fiddle with anything to make it work.
Of course, if you aren't bothered about following the rules you can just grab the photos url from the box underneath the one with the "big" code in .
Told you it'd be long winded, sorry about that, but i hope it helps

Franney I looked at the terms and couldn't find that specific reference to 'hotlinking'
Is there a difference for Pro customers?
EDIT!
| Quote: | | Note: Per our Terms of Use, whenever you place an image you're storing on Flickr on an external web site, you must also include a link back to Flickr. |
I interpret that as meaning I also include a link back to Flickr not that I cannot display the picture

Flickr don't like you using the images for buttons or avatars or anything else really other than straightforward photos where you can link back to them. That is why I use PhotoBucket where you just click on the appropriate version of the link depending on where it's going and it even copies it for you ready to paste in your post or blog.

I keep browsing round...thinking do I need flickr...will I ever get onto ravelry anyway and what the hell is photobucket all about...more importantly is it free and than I just use imageshack anyway
I like the widget things that flickr produces....

CJ

Right, that gets the photo here, but part of the code is showing before and after the photo. oh well nevermind.
|
CJ

oooo, that worked. I just copied the url code and put [img] and [/img] before and after.
yay, thanks.

well done lol.....so really it's just like right clicking, going on properties, copy and pasting the url and then do the img bit....
I know i've just repeated everything someone has already said but i think I get it now lol
(assuming this was using flickr and I need to get an account )

Hmmmm, i wonder then if that's the case? I had thought it meant that if you displayed the photo on a webpage or forum it had to link back to the appropriate page on Flickr If it just means that you have to link back to the main Flickr site then that makes it a bit easier to do with the BBCode, and a bit less copy and pasting
