Firefox 3

Has anyone else upgraded to Firefox 3?

I decided the time had come and last night upgraded seemingly with no problems but all of today surfing the internet is almost impossible with Firefox using  90% - 99% whenever I search for anything - or open a new web page - well whenever I do anything it seems.

And of course the computer slows right down - the fan comes on and makes me jump....does anyone have any ideas of what might be going on?
Auntie Noo

I've been using firefox 3 for ages and haven't had any trouble at all.  Can't think what might be causing it!? Confused

I'm on v3.0.5 with no apparent problems.

Not sure what the problem might be, have you got any add-ons that could be causing problems/conflicts? Tools > Add-ons to check what is installed.

You could also take the computer back to a System Restore point before you installed FF3 and see if the strange behaviour continues or is resolved.

No problems for me either Confused In fact if I don't use FF for Rav and I try to use IE it crashes it sometimes.

I did restore back to before I installed Firefox3 and then Firefox wouldn't work at all!  So I had to re-install it.

The plug-ins I've got are 1)Adobe PDF, 2)MS DRM etscape Network Object (don't know what its for), 3)MS DRM Store Netscape Plug-in, 4)Mozilla Default Plug in, 5) Quick Time Plug-in, 6) Windows Media Player Plug in DLL.

I don't know enough about them to know whether or not I need them.  I've not consciously added them.

Sorry the Restore didn't work. If you look in the Add-ons and check under the Extensions tab, just wondered if there were any toolbars or similar that might be causing a problem. I don't think any of the actual plugins should be a problem, I have loads and like you I never actively installed them!

Rav is the main reason I started using FF as I had the same sort of problems with IE. Some of the Rav features don't work too well with IE. I now use FF as my default browser.

same here BUT I got messages saying conflict with adobe....think adobe was the issue not firefox

I would use FF all the time but I can't get into the forum on FF now - need to check cookies or something.

Hmmm interesting - I completely removed Adobe Acrobat reader from my system last year as it caused no end of problems trying to upgrade to a new version. I had to go back to a restore point so was unimpressed! I now use Foxit PDF reader which is free and open source (and not a resource hog).
loisamelia

I use firefox but have no idea what version we are on, it automatically updates everytime a new one comes out I think
I have had no problems with it, some sites dont work so well but that is a problem with lazy programming(according to DH who does this for a living Wink )not firefox as such

Thanks for all the input....

I've just done lots of "housekeeping" on my laptop so have been out of touch while defrags etc went on.  I've freed up lots of space and the disk looks much healthier.  But... FF is still using 95%+ lots of the time although the fan isn't on so much so it must be an improvement.

I'm thinking of removing Adobe like dreamcatcher.

Good to hear your disk is OK!

I just had a Google about this and it seems this is quite a common problem with FF (with previous versions too). This site has a suggested fix.

I did also find some comments about PDF causing problems too, and also if your profile is damaged. Obviously without seeing the computer itself it's difficult to diagnose but you may want to investigate via Google.

I've tried that fix and it doesn't seem to have changed anything.  It's still randomly using near enough 100%.  Still got PDF to try but...
