I've read ALL the Faraway Tree books, my favourite character is Moonface.
I used to like the Mallory Towers books, and also the Five Find-Outers ( with Mr Goon the policeman and his not very clever nephew Ern ) and I liked the Adventure series too.

I have recently read the far away tree to my kids and they loved it. Ech morning walking to school they would talk about the story they heard last night.
We have also read the Wishing Chair and that is good.
I recently managed to get the complete set of the famour five books from the charity shop so my DS will soon be starting them

I bought Matthew the first Famous Five book a couple of weeks ago - I had and read all 21 of them when I was younger.
I loved the Magic Faraway Tree stories as well, and I've read the Wishing Chair, Amelia Jane Again stories (they always worried me though ), Secret Seven. I was an avid reader when I was younger. I wonder what happened to me??

Yeh, I like Roald Dahl! I've got quite a few off his books! At school I read a book about what had happened in his life. It was very sad!!!! | melody yarns wrote: | | I was an avid reader when I was younger. I wonder what happened to me?? |

I loved Enid Blyton books when I was young. Now I'll read absolutely anything!
Another great range of "young people's" books are by Joyce Stranger - they're all about animals. I do have to admit that several of them made me cry, there were sad bits in them. (And I cried again when I read them in my 20's )
My daughter has some books I bought her years ago, and my grandson is just starting to read them - he chooses which one he likes and they read together regularly. We used to have a "quiet night" once a week - no TV etc, either reading or board games.
There's a great game called Pass the Pigs - has anyone played it?

wow this takes me back! I loved the faraway tree books...the different lands at the top of the tree, moonface and his round furnature....the trees themselves go "wisha, wisha, wisha"

I read those too - loved them and also cried.
I also loved a series of books that were my mums - but not published anymore - about a nurse called Sue Barton
I never read now either - not enough time - got several books waiting to be read ...

I thinks it's a personal thing PP - I really have to get into a book to enjoy reading it. In fact, I think a lot of children's books are better than ones for grownups. Illustrated Mum is a good example - it's fabulous.
I don't have enough spare time to read books that don't interest me you see and there are some books that I've read halfway through and can't be bothered to finish cos I think they're rubbish.
I'm verrrry difficult to please!!

pp I LOVED reading when I was your age and I LOVE reading now still!!!! I have THOUSANDS of books - I'm not kidding So don't worry you'll be ok I'm sure
Do you like Harry Potter??
I also liked horsey books as I got a bit older - maybe 10 or 11 - I was really into horsey things and horses. I can only remember the name of one tho - Pony Jobs for Jill Anybody else read that? I think there was a series.

Pass the pig - cool game played regularly in the Binty house I also have them in a travel pack and they go most places with us when I think the kids may get bored (meals out with the grown ups, weddings, grownup parties you know the sort of thing)

There WAS a series Ali The Jill Books by Ruby Fergusson, I used to love these, and also books by Pat Smythe.
I used to have 5 shillings pocket money. 2/6d would by me an Armarda paperback ( EVERY WEEK I read a book cover to cover ) and the other 2/6d would take me to the cinema on a saturday morning, buy a coffee cornet and a packet of potato puffs and I still had money left for Judy ( a friend bought Bunty and we used to swap )
Lord I feel old
By the way 5 shillings is 25p today PPY. Can you imagine doing all of that with 25p?

I think that's The Folk of the Faraway Tree isn't it? Connie comes to stay because her mum is poorly. It's another good read PPY, I think you will enjoy it but there is a sad bit.
Have you read the Animal Ark books?
I LOVE reading - can you tell? I was an avid reader at your age, and still am today, just like Pictish.

I loved Enid Blyton as a child, had all the Famous 5 books and the St Claires and Mallory towers ones too, I still have them but DDs idea of reading is Heat magazine.
Both my boys like reading though, and I often have to tell Ds1 to put his book down to go to sleep at night.
Is your local library doing the Team read where you read 6 books in the summer and get stickers and a certificate?

I love reading childrens' books still, Harry Potter, Narnia, Enid Blyton, Ballet Shoes...........
And for anyone who wants to knit and still get stories, they've just put some famous five on audible.co.uk!!!!

If you want to try it it's called.....
The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O'Shea. It's really good! PPO has got some Harry Potter books ( I think ) so i'll give them a go! But i'll have to wait a little bit because I had just decided that i'm going to read the Faraway tree stories again! But i'm a quick reader so i'll be done soon!!!!

I didnt like The Morrigan as much as HP...uses a lot of Irish/Scots colloquialism's so this may "halt the flow!"
When I was PP's age...
I loved The Famous Five
Nancy Drew Books
Mallory Towers Series
James Herbert
Alfred Hitchcocks kids series (can't remember the exact name)
Agatha Christie
Was sent home with a letter for reading "Brave New World"
Then I got into thrillers like Alistair MacLean,s.
Great books I found the PP's liked are these by Julia Golding...think boys would like these too
