Ella wrapNow I've had a go at Forest Canopy I would like a larger shawl/wrap thing but I'm still a beginner at lace so I thought Ella from Knitty would be a good one to try. I also love the 'wings' that keep it on.

After FIVE attempts I'm now only this far (think I've got the hang of it now!) but would anyone else like to join me? This one's in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport in Watercolour which DH got from the US from the Yarn Grove when he went there on business. Jane was so lovely and helpful It takes 3 and a half balls according to a blogger friend of mine. I'm not sure I'll make it to the end but I'm going to give it a go I warn you now, there are p2togtbls which are a bit of a pain but I'm getting used to them.

Nanatoo its look lovely - I love the colour of the yarn! I'm just about to start Shoalwater (hopefully today) so cant join you but shall watch your progress with interest. That yarn is going to make a stunning shawl.

That is absolutely beautiful yarn Nanatoo Can't join you as I am not up to that level of lace yet and have too many other things at the moment OTN but will be watching your progress

I can't join in either, it's way above my knitty ability, good luck with it though, it looks lovely.

You're all frightening me If it's above your level then it's surely above mine, I am a beginner at lace

If you've done a FCS then you're not a beginner any more IMO

I love those colours I can't join in as I just don't have time at the moment, I'm determined to finish Flair too TBH the p2togtbl is not that difficult, I think it was SnB book that explained it properly as before that I was very confused!

I started on 5mms because some people did that and the p2togtbl was hard for me but I went up to 6mms and it's a bit easier. I still don't like it though

That's looking lovely Nanatoo! I hadn't noticed Ella before on Knitty and I really like it, so thanks so much for the link
I might be up for joining in in a few weeks, once I've finished Kiri (feeling optimistic today ) I have some Knitting Goddess cashmere 4ply weight I think would work well for it

I really like the shape of this one....after kiri No2, I may well be joining in aswell

Yay! I hope you both do. I'll be very slow so I'll still not be much further along once you've Kiri-ed

I've already got this one printed off to have a go at too, but not bought any yarn for it yet, cos it's DK isn't it?
love the colour of the LL.
|
Nanatoo
|
Is it dk? I dunno I saw a fellow-blogger had made about 3 of them and 2 were made in the LL Shepherd Sport so I copied
Let's have a look at the pattern.Handmaiden Lady Godiva which the designer used has a gauge of 20sts on 4mm needles and the pattern uses 6mm. Go buy some yarn!

thanks, I'm saving up for the LL now.

so is this 4ply? or DK? I got slightly confused . Can you get cheap varigated 4ply (like acrylic for practise) all seem to find is sock yarn.

20 sts on 4mm would be dk wouldn't it? Which is odd because Wendy from Knitandtonic says that a perfect sub is LL Shepherd Sport

and the blogger whose I admired (I don't think she'd mind if I linked to her blog but would somebody please tell me if I shouldn't do this as she isn't blogging regularly at the mo. If it's breaking an internet rule please tell me and Alice I hope you don't mind) used Sportweight. I think LL Sportweight is between a sport and a dk

Scroll down a bit for specs and pic.

May 14th entry. She's used Sport again but knitted with looser tension and blocked it mercilessly.
She's also done one in LL Swirl DK and it's much bigger.
Juy 12th entry.

I don't think I've seen variegated 4ply either. I reckon this would be lovely in dk though if you don't mind it a bit bigger? I always think there's a slight difference between what we are all callling weights like Sport and 4 ply and dk and sock anyway - it's very confuzzling!

I find the weights of yarns one of the most confuzzling things ever Fingering, sport, worsted, light worsted ............... I think I'd always thought sport WAS DK or thereabouts.
All that withstanding, I love your yarn, and like the pattern very much. And it's all written out in words of one syllable which is what every good pattern should do IMHO - I'm getting there with charts but being so very disinclined mathematically ( rubbish at maths ) I much prefer well written instructions.
The Yarn Grove is my favourite US on-line knitting site - I LOVE it - and Jane and Debby are both really lovely to deal with.
I am not sure if I can join in just yet - I am going to finish Bob and Rosa as soon as I can, and knit these few baby things, then I am going to Kiri-a-long - there I've done it now but maybe I will join you one day.
Having said all that - it is looking lovely Nanatoo, and again I really like the yarn you have chosen.

oh, is it DK? I hadn't realised that either I automatically thought it was 4ply - I think I misread Shepherd Sport as Shepherd Sock
Well, I've probably got something DK-ish knocking around. Or I might try to be clever with the pattern and work it out for 4ply. Although I haven't actually looked properly at the pattern yet, so it might not be easy or possible! Don't hold me to it

If anybody else joins in I'll consider it a bonus Considering the squitty little bit I've started I'm surprised anybody's tempted
Joy, I can't do charts either, but I'm having to learn with 'Toledo'.
You can call me Tina on here if you like btw, I don't mind. I'm calling you by your name, it's only fair
