Ebay Bargain!!wow, I can't believe my luck, on Sunday I actually won an ebay auction for the very first time. Look what we have now. ETA, it also came with a pair of carders, so no need to buy those now.
It's a 12 year old Ashford Traveller, and I followed advice to get a cheap first secondhand wheel to learn on, before making the decision on which more expensive new one I want to buy in the new year with xmas and birthday money.
Only trouble is, I can't get on it during the day, and last night DH was fiddling with the drive band, scotch tension bits etc.

I know, I was looking at carders and new ones that size are nearly £30.

It looks all varnished as well which you pay extra for You might find you don't need to buy a new one

Ali, it's just been oiled, but the accumulate effect of it is very nice.
I definately will need a second one that folds up out of the way though, as the kids seem to have taken over "their Gromit". Which lendrum do you have, Ali?

I have this one but mine cost a bit less - about £280 I think - 4 years ago. I never fold mine but you can It is beautiful to look at and the one I found easiest to use. i couldn't seem to use the single treadle ones.

The kids certainly like looking at it, not to mention spinning it.
yes, that's the one the lady on ravelry has, so I'm hoping to try it out at some point.

YAY, I've been spinning today. The lovely Eluned (ravelry) or Artis-Anne in blogland is on Anglesey for a couple of days and dropped in with two shopping bags of washed fleece to show me how to spin.
It was great fun, but I'm a bit rubbish at the moment and got designer thick/thin yarn with twisty bits in it. so no photos just yet.
only trouble is, she let me try out her lendrum and now I want one of those too. Obviously I need a second wheel, cos Gromit is the kids.

Isn't Anne lovely
CJ ( I am going to namedrop here ) when I went on the Knitting in All Directions workshop at Colinette, Colinette herself was telling us about how she started out selling stuff in Covent Garden, and how she soon wanted something different so she thought she would learn to spin ( as you do ) and wasn't so good at it - her yarn was a bit "thick and thin" - enter Point Five
So you aren't that far off the mark with your "designer yarn"

Ali, I knew I'd want a lendrum too. DH has said I can have one - yay!! But it might take me at least 6 months to save up, so plenty of time to practise on my traveller. I love the way the lendrum packs up into a bag - excellent to keep out of the way of littlies, cos I can't stop them treadling constantly.
Joy, thanks for the encouragement!! That's what we said about my yarn - I was aiming for point 5. Yes, Anne is lovely. We're going to meet up soon for another spinning day, this time with her DD hopefully.
