Dumb question time
If I use 2 strands of DK, is it roughly the same weight as Aran?
DD wants a beret to match her Christmas cardi from last year, and I still have leftover DK.

From a thread which I cant find at the moment if your double yarn times the guage by 0.7 to get a guage for the yarn doubled - eg. 22sts x 0.7 = 15sts

I thought 2 x 4 ply = aran & 2 x dk = chunky

Not usually Jo, cos the twist that it ends up with makes it thinner than double the actual thickness, IYSWIM?
