I voted for number 1, at risk of being the fat chick some of those tops either would not fit or look really gross above my belly, I would be happy with 1, 2 or the hat.
saying that though if the rest of you want to do one of the others I will do a CAL on my own but still with you if you know what I mean

I'm unlikely to do something to wear (Im not very good at getting them the right size )
But as Chrissy said I will probably do the throw thing at the same time as you do the CAL (thats if I can understand the pattern etc)

I could add a throw onto the poll - I nearly did but couldnt decide which one - off to look at the brochure ( which I had totally forgotten I had )

I've just pm'd Bruce - probably too late, knowing my luck I'll be no 11! What a nice thing to do though!

I voted for the minky brown jacket - but it's way out of my league and I know if I start I'll probably have to give up cos it will be far too difficult for me. I think I need something extra simple *embarassed look*
Maybe I should stick with my baby blankie in granny squares until I become more efficient, or look for simple design in the DROPS book
|

what about this one...if you are wanting a granny square based one...can measure squares as you go along. I would have voted for this one if it were in the poll!!! For reasons I've just said

I voted for the granny square one cos that IS the one I had my eye on Cazzie/Murdo Missed this on the other thread. Trouble is I can't crochet But I reckon if I DO start that would be easiest. Only thing is I don't think the chenille is still available but maybe you can just do it all in Muskat.

I'll have a go at answering some of these issues while Birgitte waits for her application to be approved.
First - on the Chenille question - you are right, that has long since been discontinued. But there are 3 possible alternatives which will get you close to the right tension:
Safran - very similar to Muskat but not Mercerised - so does not have the sheen that Muskat has. Knitting Tension is 23 X 30. Great selection of colour shades available. 160 metres/50grams
Cotton Viscose - lustrous and quite shiny, very deeply saturated colourways available - a very striking yarn - but not everbody's taste. Same knitting tension as Safran. 110metres/50grams
Muskat itself - certainly this could be used throughout - knitting tension is 21 X 28. Semi-lustrous - super saturated colourways. 100metres/50grams.
ALL are washable at 40 degrees.
Second - No problem with how many may be chosen - just so long as B doesn't have to crochet them all herself B. will do 99 / 2 and Binty she also wants to do the throw, but will wait until summer hols because she wants to do two matching bedspreads. She will not use Eskimo - more likely to use DROPS ICE, and adjust pattern to suit.
Pattern 68 - 21 - note this uses American Crochet terminology - there are five main differences - all given at www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/includes/pinnestr.php -
but if this is one that is chosen - Birgitte will try to publish an English version on the site.
Finally - all Brochures in envelopes and ready to go - but still some left for latecomers !!

Looking at the pattern for the throw its done on a chunky yarn, could it be done on a DK weight with a smaller hook but just make more of it?
Or have I just made a fool of myself
|

I dont see why not - as you say it will just produce smaller squares

Hmm thanks for the info on Muskat Bruce ---- I was looking for a cotton that knitted to around 20sts to 10cm this afternoon - I think you've just pointed me in the right direction!
|
Oliver
|
Cazzie is absolutely right, Binty, you can change the yarn quality on the
throw without too much difficulty. In fact Birgitte was planning to do her two bedspreads in PARIS instead of DROPS ICE simply because the colour choice is so much bigger with Paris - but baulked only because
with 5mm Hook it would take much longer, and she wants to start, and finish, while on summer vacations - so it'll be the White Drops Ice .....
but sure - you do not have to use chunky yarns.
To see the colour choices with Paris - look here

Binty
|
Ohhh this is getting quite exciting now
|
franney
|
I've started mine
I'm doing 97-3 in Sirdar Spree and i've hit a problem
I'm on the armhole and neck shaping on the front -
| Quote: | | 15th row: Begin to crochet at the armhole side again – crochet 20 tr from the armhole towards the centre front, turn the piece. Crochet another 4 rows with 1 tr in each tr – see decreasing tips-1- at the same time cast off towards the neck side as follows: When crochet from the armhole and towards the centre front turn when 1 tr left, repeat 1 more time = 18 tr |
| Quote: | Decreasing tips-1 (for the shoulder at the front pieces):
To ensure the shoulder is straight, skip 1 tr at the centre front when crochet from the centre front and towards the side and then crochet 2 tr in the last tr towards the armhole. |
So, i've done the 20 tr from armhole to centre front and now i can't work out what i am meant to do on the return row from centre front to armhole
Do i slip stitch to the 2nd treble on then do my ch3, tr in each tr then 2tr in the last tr? The neck cast off seems pretty straight forward but as i haven't got that far yet i can't say for sure
Can someone please help me? It's such a quick project, i've only done about an hour and a half and the first front is nearly finished
Mind you, this is only a test run, my gauge is out from the swatch i did for some reason so if the size doesn't come up right i will be redoing it, but it's good to have a practise isn't it?
|
cazzie
|
franney,
I finished crocheting 97-3 last night If you can wait until I get home (4pmish) I will check my notes on exactly what I did on the fronts but decreases are as you describe. When at the start of a row: I slip stitched to the 2nd treble - did my 3 chain and then carried on with the trebles from there and when the decrease was at the end I just missed the last treble - does this make sense?
Be interested how it works out in spree - I did mine in the Inka - will post a piccie later - I cant decide if to undo the last edging row - I didnt leave enough spaces and it has come up a bit frilly - but it does look nice
|
franney
|
Thanks Cazzie, that sounds just like what i was thinking of
I'll sit down with it again a bit later, i just didn't want to do it and then it be wrong, there's going to be enough frogging of it as it is!
Post piccies before you decide on the edging row please, so we can decide for you
|
Binty
|
Right the decision has been made ....... 7-99 is the one for me, the colours are just fantastic (in my eyes) and its done on a big-ish hooks so should be quick.
Poor Bruce has had to endure the ramblings of a mad woman over the last couple of days ...........
After receiving the book I decided that I love the throw but wasn't sure which yarn to use, Bruce kindly sent me a couple of bits of some which would be suitable. I decided that I really liked Ice which was one he sent, then I order the yarn but got it completely wrong and ordered eskimo so I sent Bruce an email saying sorry I got confused I really meant it to be Ice not eskimo. Bruce phoned me and said not to worry, then he sent me a few more samples to help me decide and this morning they arrived so I sent another jumbled email about the yarn I wanted and the colours and what I thought would be the right amount and he emailed back straight away and said he would sort it and post out asap (possible to arrive tomorrow morning!!)
How fantastic is that I really can't tell you how fantastic the service has been and how patient and tolerant Bruce has been.
Again THANK YOU Bruce

Here are the photos of Birgitte's WIP on 99 /2 .
The yarn is White "MUSKAT" and Birgitte says that it is not difficult to do and moves along quite quickly.
But:
There is a minor mistake in the pattern!! Although we do have editing access to the Garnstudio site - we are not allowed to change anything in a pattern that stems from the original Norwegian without first getting their approval - which we have not yet got. So, if anyone is doing this pattern, let us know and we'll give you the detail.

ok...for those who understand what they are doing...is 99-1 harder or easier than
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en...hp?d_nr=97&d_id=3&lang=en
OR...if I do granny square cardi and sub colours from left to right from 43 to 29 then on left to right on row below from 06 to and including 05
In other words, in Musskat throughout (instead of chenille and Muskat)
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visgarn.php?garn=Muskat
Dpo you think those colours go?????

Oh Bruce thank you! Be dumbfounded
The Ice is lovely, Im really pleased with it and the way the colours are working out. Im not so keen on one of the blues (the medium one) so may be in contact to get some more of the other colours. 99-2 is finished - piccies.Birgitte has finished her 99 / 2
Apart from a misreading of the pattern diagram which caused her to lose two evenings work it's quite straightforward she said - but she's not a happy camper. She did the medium size ( her normal ) but it's too small
for her - I think she's a bit miffed and is threatening to do it again !!
Looking at the model at
www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=99&d_id=2&lang=en
this one has been knitted in large size - not sure that the model is large tho.
I think the message is, if you are thinking of doing this is that you should consider going up a size. We will bring this to Garnstudio attention, and see what they say.

Cazzie, what size hook did you use for inka jacket. My tension is too tight on 5.5mm hook with Inka.
|
cazzie
|
Haver PM'd Murdo - but for reference if anyone else does the pattern - where it says size 9 it is a 9mm needle
|
murdo
|
My 5.5mm swatch is like a coaster/frisbee...now I know why
|
Oliver
|
Sorry Jackie, we knew about this - and shut the stable door 5 minutes ago !! The pattern has now been corrected about a year too late - but the thought of going through several hundred patterns and changing them all to read mm is a little daunting !!
Bruce
|
murdo
|
Bruce...I view it as a character building experience
|
murdo
|
ok..bit of advice please. Doing tension swatch for Inka crochet jacket. So treble rows using 9mm hook. Stitch count spot on at 8 trebles in 4 inches BUT row count out. Getting 5 rows instead of 4.5 per 4 inches. As this is crochet in a semi centre from side seam, will this slight difference be significant. I usually go for 40 inch chest in a jacket as I'm a 34-36 bust but worried extra rows may make too wide...go for smaller size with 36 inch finished chest???????
|
franney
|
Have you tried adjusting your technique slightly and pulling the stitch down a bit tighter? That's what i tend to do if i'm out by such a small amount... but then i don't have much experience crocheting garments so this may not work
Not much help am i, sorry luv!
|
Oliver
|
Hi Jackie, had a chat with Birgitte about this ................
comments are from her - not me !!
Firstly, she says you may not need to be too concerned about this because as you do more and more rows, the garment will stretch a bit
under it's own weight, which may cancel out that half row difference.
Secondly, she suggests that if you are going into the loop between two trebles, then you could try going into the stitch at the top of the treble instead - which would increase your measurement per row, slightly.
It's all Greek to me ..................
Bruce
|
franney
|
Oh DOH! of course, you want your tension to be looser not tighter, ignore my post, i am a div
|
murdo
|
Thanks everyone/Bruce. I will try to use slightly looser tension.
|
murdo
|
Just about finished first front of Inka...will do piccie!
|
murdo
|
ok...first front of pattern for Inka cardi says...
Size M:
10th row: *2 tr in 1 tr, 1 tr in each of the following 8 tr*, repeat from *-* until 5 tr left (= armhole) = 55 tr, turn the piece.
11th row: 1 tr in each of the first 18 tr, turn the piece.
Crochet another 7 rows with 1 tr in each tr – see decreasing tips-1- at the same time cast off towards the neck side as follows: When crochet from the armhole and towards the centre front turn when 1 tr left, repeat 1 more time = 16 tr. At this point the crochet is completed up to the shoulder at the side of the armhole. Cut the thread.
Begin to crochet again at the centre front.
Crochet the next row as follows: 1 tr in each of the first 10 tr, 1 dc in the next tr, 1 sl st in the next tr, turn the piece.
Next row: 1 ch, skip 1 st, 1 sl st in the next st, 1 dc in the st, 1 tr in each of the following 9 tr, turn the piece. At this point the crochet is completed up to the shoulder at the neck side.
Collar: Crochet 3 rows of tr in each of the outermost 6 tr, cut the thread. Crochet another front piece the same way but reverse.
Now...as a crochet-numpty...what exactly is meant by reverse here...can someone give me a comparison of front original pattern line AND reversed pattern line for other side. Thanks!!! Lovely yarn...I'm enjoying this!!!
|
Oliver
|
Murdo,
Birgitte is out for the evening - but I can tell you that reverse, means
mirrored - crochet a mirror image of what you did on the first one.
Make sense ? If not - B will come back to you tomorrow.
