99 - 11 - corset top

chrissy

I voted for number 1, at risk of being the fat chick Embarassed some of those tops either would not fit or look really gross above my belly, I would be happy with 1, 2 or the hat.

saying that though if the rest of you want to do one of the others I will do a CAL on my own but still with you if you know what I mean
Chrissy
Oliver

Just in case anyone has not seen the other thread about this topic, ( Oh dear, I think I'm hooked !!) there are still 5 Drops 99 Design Brochures showing 31 of their 2007 Crochet Collection available on first come first served basis !!! Very Happy

Just send me a PM or an e-mail to Sales@scandinavianknittingdesign.com

and remember to include your mailing address !!!

Binty

I'm unlikely to do something to wear (Im not very good at getting them the right size Embarassed )

But as Chrissy said I will probably do the throw thing at the same time as you do the CAL (thats if I can understand the pattern etc)
cazzie

I could add a throw onto the poll - I nearly did but couldnt decide which one - off to look at the brochure ( which I had totally forgotten I had Rolling Eyes )
Aknita

I've just pm'd Bruce - probably too late, knowing my luck I'll be no 11! What a nice thing to do though!
melody yarns

I voted for the minky brown jacket - but it's way out of my league and I know if I start I'll probably have to give up cos it will be far too difficult for me. I think I need something extra simple *embarassed look*

Maybe I should stick with my baby blankie in granny squares until I become more efficient, or look for simple design in the DROPS book
murdo

what about this one...if you are wanting a granny square based one...can measure squares as you go along. I would have voted for this one if it were in the poll!!! For reasons I've just said

I like that one too - shall I add it to the poll Very Happy
murdo

Yes please...I know I've used my vote but I LIKE it and think it's easier. I think Bruce is happy for us to do more than one pattern.
cazzie

Added to list - but cant see how to get it into the poll Confused

PS I would do the granny square one....
melody yarns

I like the Granny square one as well... will investigate poll thingy...

{My PC keeps locking this morning so I'm a bit random today}
melody yarns

Added Granny square cardi to the poll for you!
murdo

Bog...I've already voted BUT I am happy to go two WIPs...easier one first Smile

Thank you

Murdo - can you vote twice?
pictish

I voted for the granny square one cos that IS the one I had my eye on Cazzie/Murdo Cool Missed this on the other thread. Trouble is I can't crochet Shocked Shocked Laughing But I reckon if I DO start that would be easiest. Only thing is I don't think the chenille is still available but maybe you can just do it all in Muskat.
melody yarns

I'm sure that Bruce could recommend alternatives Wink

Nope...dont think so Smile

The squares one is lovely but not quite large enough for me

I need to get my hook oot and give it a go - I have 2 books Cool
murdo

Just back from Borders....bought Dummies Guide to Crochet...thought it wise
Oliver

I'll have a go at answering some of these issues while Birgitte waits for her application to be approved.

First - on the Chenille question - you are right, that has long since been discontinued. But there are 3 possible alternatives which will get you close to the right tension:
Safran - very similar to Muskat but not Mercerised - so does not have the sheen that Muskat has. Knitting Tension is 23 X 30. Great selection of colour shades available. 160 metres/50grams
Cotton Viscose - lustrous and quite shiny, very deeply saturated colourways available - a very striking yarn - but not everbody's taste. Same knitting tension as Safran. 110metres/50grams
Muskat itself - certainly this could be used throughout - knitting tension is 21 X 28. Semi-lustrous - super saturated colourways. 100metres/50grams.

ALL are washable at 40 degrees.

Second - No problem with how many may be chosen - just so long as B doesn't have to crochet them all herself Shocked B. will do 99 / 2 and Binty she also wants to do the throw, but will wait until summer hols because she wants to do two matching bedspreads. She will not use Eskimo - more likely to use DROPS ICE, and adjust pattern to suit.

Pattern 68 - 21 - note this uses American Crochet terminology - there are five main differences - all given at www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/includes/pinnestr.php -

but if this is one that is chosen - Birgitte will try to publish an English version on the site.

Finally - all Brochures in envelopes and ready to go - but still some left for latecomers !! Very Happy

Bruce
Binty

Looking at the pattern for the throw its done on a chunky yarn, could it be done on a DK weight with a smaller hook but just make more of it?

Or have I just made a fool of myself Rolling Eyes
cazzie

I dont see why not - as you say it will just produce smaller squares
melody yarns

Registration now approved!!
melody yarns

Hmm thanks for the info on Muskat Bruce ---- I was looking for a cotton that knitted to around 20sts to 10cm this afternoon - I think you've just pointed me in the right direction!
Oliver

Cazzie is absolutely right, Binty, you can change the yarn quality on the
throw without too much difficulty. In fact Birgitte was planning to do her two bedspreads in PARIS instead of DROPS ICE simply because the colour choice is so much bigger with Paris - but baulked only because
with 5mm Hook it would take much longer, and she wants to start, and finish, while on summer vacations - so it'll be the White Drops Ice .....

but sure - you do not have to use chunky yarns.

To see the colour choices with Paris - look here
www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visgarn.php?garn=Paris

Bruce
Binty

Oh I really like those colour. Oliver I have pm'ed you a question.
cazzie

Binty - I have just started knitting a top in Paris and I like it - I love the colours it comes in (have 4 now Embarassed )
murdo

I think I will stick to Muskat for granny square cardi and do this throughtout....off to choose colours to sub the chenille Smile
Binty

Ohhh this is getting quite exciting now Very Happy
franney

Embarassed I've started mine Very Happy
I'm doing 97-3 in Sirdar Spree and i've hit a problem Rolling Eyes
I'm on the armhole and neck shaping on the front -
Quote:
15th row: Begin to crochet at the armhole side again – crochet 20 tr from the armhole towards the centre front, turn the piece. Crochet another 4 rows with 1 tr in each tr – see decreasing tips-1- at the same time cast off towards the neck side as follows: When crochet from the armhole and towards the centre front turn when 1 tr left, repeat 1 more time = 18 tr

Quote:
Decreasing tips-1 (for the shoulder at the front pieces):
To ensure the shoulder is straight, skip 1 tr at the centre front when crochet from the centre front and towards the side and then crochet 2 tr in the last tr towards the armhole.

So, i've done the 20 tr from armhole to centre front and now i can't work out what i am meant to do on the return row from centre front to armhole Confused
Do i slip stitch to the 2nd treble on then do my ch3, tr in each tr then 2tr in the last tr? The neck cast off seems pretty straight forward but as i haven't got that far yet i can't say for sure Very Happy
Can someone please help me? It's such a quick project, i've only done about an hour and a half and the first front is nearly finished Smile
Mind you, this is only a test run, my gauge is out from the swatch i did for some reason so if the size doesn't come up right i will be redoing it, but it's good to have a practise isn't it? Laughing
cazzie

franney,

I finished crocheting 97-3 last night Very Happy If you can wait until I get home (4pmish) I will check my notes on exactly what I did on the fronts but decreases are as you describe. When at the start of a row: I slip stitched to the 2nd treble - did my 3 chain and then carried on with the trebles from there and when the decrease was at the end I just missed the last treble - does this make sense?

Be interested how it works out in spree - I did mine in the Inka - will post a piccie later - I cant decide if to undo the last edging row - I didnt leave enough spaces and it has come up a bit frilly - but it does look nice Very Happy
franney

Thanks Cazzie, that sounds just like what i was thinking of Smile
I'll sit down with it again a bit later, i just didn't want to do it and then it be wrong, there's going to be enough frogging of it as it is! Laughing
Post piccies before you decide on the edging row please, so we can decide for you Laughing
Binty

Right the decision has been made ....... 7-99 is the one for me, the colours are just fantastic (in my eyes) and its done on a big-ish hooks so should be quick.

Poor Bruce has had to endure the ramblings of a mad woman over the last couple of days ...........

After receiving the book I decided that I love the throw but wasn't sure which yarn to use, Bruce kindly sent me a couple of bits of some which would be suitable. I decided that I really liked Ice which was one he sent, then I order the yarn but got it completely wrong and ordered eskimo Shocked so I sent Bruce an email saying sorry I got confused I really meant it to be Ice not eskimo. Bruce phoned me Very Happy and said not to worry, then he sent me a few more samples to help me decide and this morning they arrived Laughing so I sent another jumbled email about the yarn I wanted and the colours and what I thought would be the right amount and he emailed back straight away and said he would sort it and post out asap (possible to arrive tomorrow morning!!)

How fantastic is that Very Happy I really can't tell you how fantastic the service has been and how patient and tolerant Bruce has been.

Again THANK YOU Bruce Very Happy
cazzie

Binty - Please post some piccies of the yarn when it arrives Very Happy
SKD really do get 10/10 for service - B&B are always so helpful Very Happy

Looks lovely Cazzie, and thankyou Binty for letting us know how good the service is, it makes all the difference doesn't it when buying online Smile
Oliver

I should have told everyone that Birgitte has started 99/2 - I'll do some piccies on it soon as get them up for you all to see.

Binty - your BIG package is in the post. Actually two packages as the amount you ordered didn't fit into one !! Thought you might appreciate getting started on this over the BH weekend - especially after the last two days of work type stress !!

Best wishes to all.
Bruce
Oliver

Here are the photos of Birgitte's WIP on 99 /2 .

The yarn is White "MUSKAT" and Birgitte says that it is not difficult to do and moves along quite quickly. Very Happy

But:

There is a minor mistake in the pattern!! Although we do have editing access to the Garnstudio site - we are not allowed to change anything in a pattern that stems from the original Norwegian without first getting their approval - which we have not yet got. Confused So, if anyone is doing this pattern, let us know and we'll give you the detail.

Bruce
cazzie

That looks lovely Very Happy
Binty

That looks lovely. I hope the postie comes after 7.30 tomorrow so that I have a chance to "home" my new additions before OH comes home Very Happy

If they don't get here tomorrow he is working early again on Tuesday so again I wil have chance to home it Wink

Oliver those pictures of Brigittes work are lovely and thank you for showing us.

I really hope I can read the pattern as I have never read one before Shocked
murdo

Oliver/Brigitte, that's gorgeous! Ringing you tomorrow for advice re yarn...then can order and get started!!
franney

Ooooh, that looks lovely, it has a lovely sheen to it doesn't it Smile

chrissy

thanks so much,
I am not going to start untill after my hols. I must carry on with my shawl and if I start something new that will never be done in time for woolfest, and I am not sure it is going ot be finished anyway, so once I get back towards the end of May I will no doubt be well and truly stuck and will need all the help I can get, lol
Chrissy
murdo

ok...for those who understand what they are doing...is 99-1 harder or easier than
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en...hp?d_nr=97&d_id=3&lang=en

OR...if I do granny square cardi and sub colours from left to right from 43 to 29 then on left to right on row below from 06 to and including 05
In other words, in Musskat throughout (instead of chenille and Muskat)
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visgarn.php?garn=Muskat

Dpo you think those colours go?????
cazzie

I think both patterns are fairly straightforward - 97-3 is easy in that it is just rows of trebles....

Re: Granny square cardi - I love those colours and think they would look great...
Binty

Very Happy Ok progress so far ..................

(these are not in the right order I've just placed them together to show you!)
murdo

oooh!!! That's lovely!!!!!!!!
cazzie

Wow - looking good Very Happy
craftylady

I keep looking at this thread and drooling over the magnificent work. I have managed a granny square once in my life but following a pattern scares the s**t out of me. Maybe one day I'll pluck up enough courage to give a garment or even just something bigger than a square a go!! In the meanwhile I'll keep looking and wishing!
murdo

Craftylady...what about the granny square cardi then???
pictish

That's gorgeous Binty Cool - which pattern is it?
KnittingLadybird

Binty those motifs are fabulous!..I really need to start wielding my hook again Very Happy
craftylady

My fear is gripping me at the moment Jackie, I know I would like it in perhaps more subtle colours but the fear tells me hate it, can't do it....etc.

I know it's stupid and once I convince myself I can do it, I'll be away like no-one's business, I was like that with the Rolling Thunder socks and the beads. I worried myself so much that I wouldn't be able to do it but I could. It's all in the mind and my minds not there!
Oliver

If that's a beginner's work, Binty - then I'm dumbfounded. This is going to be finished in no time. How do you like the Ice yarn to crochet with??

The colours are going really well together - I showed Birgitte . .... WOW !!
she said !!

Bruce
KnittingLadybird

is the pattern 99-7? the large throw?
murdo

Craftylady...I'll do it with you if you like? I am a beginner but sure we can support each other. I've posted earlier on here a different/subtle colour mix...we could be clones!!! If that doesn't put you off nowt will!!

Oh Bruce thank you! Be dumbfounded Very Happy

The Ice is lovely, Im really pleased with it and the way the colours are working out. Im not so keen on one of the blues (the medium one) so may be in contact to get some more of the other colours. Im seeing how many motifs I can get done with the other colours and will try and work out if I need more and of what colour.

Thanks again Bruce for all your help with this - you have enabled me to regain my sanity this weekend Very Happy
chrissy

that is just beautiful, well done

Carola I cant take all the credit for the colours - I had a lot of help from Bruce (SKD)
Oliver

Ermmmm Carola, Very Happy Very Happy

Yes, is the answer - I only got 8 requests so there's two left - e-mail to Sales@scandinavianknittingdesign.com with your address will reserve one for you.

oi Cassie...where's your finished/modelled pic?
cazzie

My finished one is here.

Still no modelled one yet and DH is away now until Sunday night....

Look forward to seeing yours too Very Happy
Oliver

99-2 is finished - piccies.

Birgitte has finished her 99 / 2 Very Happy

Apart from a misreading of the pattern diagram which caused her to lose two evenings work Sad it's quite straightforward she said - but she's not a happy camper. She did the medium size ( her normal ) but it's too small
for her - I think she's a bit miffed Sad and is threatening to do it again !!

Looking at the model at

www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=99&d_id=2&lang=en

this one has been knitted in large size - not sure that the model is large tho.

I think the message is, if you are thinking of doing this is that you should consider going up a size. We will bring this to Garnstudio attention, and see what they say.

Bruce
cazzie

Wow - that looks fab Very Happy
franney

Oh, that really does look lovely, such a shame it isn't going to fit though Sad
Auntie Noo

Oh that's such a shame that it isn't going to fit - it looks lovely. It would have been super quick without the mistake too!
murdo

That's lovely!!!! What a shame re size. It's a gorgeous item!!
murdo

Well...yarn has arrived at John's work but he's not home till 7...how I miss him (the yarn)
franney

Laughing @ Murdo!
Binty

I wish I would/could stick to a pattern!!

Ive done 25 thingies for my throw, but I havent done them the colour combinations that the pattern said Rolling Eyes (oh why oh why I hear myself saying)

Now Im struggling with getting them to look nice sewn together Shocked

Ive tried "random" but believe me I just cant do it Embarassed

Now I think I want/need to make some more thingies and even change some of the ones that Ive done!

Oh I wish I would/could stick to a pattern Rolling Eyes
murdo

Cazzie, what size hook did you use for inka jacket. My tension is too tight on 5.5mm hook with Inka.
cazzie

Haver PM'd Murdo - but for reference if anyone else does the pattern - where it says size 9 it is a 9mm needle Very Happy
murdo

My 5.5mm swatch is like a coaster/frisbee...now I know why Smile
Oliver

Sorry Jackie, we knew about this - and shut the stable door 5 minutes ago !! The pattern has now been corrected about a year too late - but the thought of going through several hundred patterns and changing them all to read mm is a little daunting !!

Bruce
murdo

Bruce...I view it as a character building experience Smile
murdo

ok..bit of advice please. Doing tension swatch for Inka crochet jacket. So treble rows using 9mm hook. Stitch count spot on at 8 trebles in 4 inches BUT row count out. Getting 5 rows instead of 4.5 per 4 inches. As this is crochet in a semi centre from side seam, will this slight difference be significant. I usually go for 40 inch chest in a jacket as I'm a 34-36 bust but worried extra rows may make too wide...go for smaller size with 36 inch finished chest???????
franney

Have you tried adjusting your technique slightly and pulling the stitch down a bit tighter? That's what i tend to do if i'm out by such a small amount... but then i don't have much experience crocheting garments so this may not work Rolling Eyes
Not much help am i, sorry luv!
Oliver

Hi Jackie, had a chat with Birgitte about this ................

comments are from her - not me !! Embarassed

Firstly, she says you may not need to be too concerned about this because as you do more and more rows, the garment will stretch a bit
under it's own weight, which may cancel out that half row difference.

Secondly, she suggests that if you are going into the loop between two trebles, then you could try going into the stitch at the top of the treble instead - which would increase your measurement per row, slightly.

It's all Greek to me .................. Rolling Eyes

Bruce
franney

Oh DOH! of course, you want your tension to be looser not tighter, ignore my post, i am a div rolleyes
murdo

Thanks everyone/Bruce. I will try to use slightly looser tension.
murdo

Just about finished first front of Inka...will do piccie!
murdo

ok...first front of pattern for Inka cardi says...
Size M:
10th row: *2 tr in 1 tr, 1 tr in each of the following 8 tr*, repeat from *-* until 5 tr left (= armhole) = 55 tr, turn the piece.
11th row: 1 tr in each of the first 18 tr, turn the piece.
Crochet another 7 rows with 1 tr in each tr – see decreasing tips-1- at the same time cast off towards the neck side as follows: When crochet from the armhole and towards the centre front turn when 1 tr left, repeat 1 more time = 16 tr. At this point the crochet is completed up to the shoulder at the side of the armhole. Cut the thread.
Begin to crochet again at the centre front.
Crochet the next row as follows: 1 tr in each of the first 10 tr, 1 dc in the next tr, 1 sl st in the next tr, turn the piece.
Next row: 1 ch, skip 1 st, 1 sl st in the next st, 1 dc in the st, 1 tr in each of the following 9 tr, turn the piece. At this point the crochet is completed up to the shoulder at the neck side.
Collar: Crochet 3 rows of tr in each of the outermost 6 tr, cut the thread. Crochet another front piece the same way but reverse.

Now...as a crochet-numpty...what exactly is meant by reverse here...can someone give me a comparison of front original pattern line AND reversed pattern line for other side. Thanks!!! Lovely yarn...I'm enjoying this!!!
Oliver

Murdo,

Birgitte is out for the evening - but I can tell you that reverse, means
mirrored - crochet a mirror image of what you did on the first one.

Make sense ? If not - B will come back to you tomorrow.

Bruce
cazzie

murdo,

does this help - here is a piccie of my first front of the jacket - as Oliver says if you flip it as if looking in a mirror - you will see how the shaping works on the other side - or you could just turn your first front over and see it that way......

or here is a piccie of mine semi completed which might help too

murdo

Well Shocked Shocked I think the semi circle bits the same...so will start that!!!
cazzie

The semi circle bit is the same - and now I cant remember what I did - off to dig mine out and look
