Drop spindle spinning. Now with pics.I now have a drop spindle and some lovely roving from e-bay.
After reading loads on the internet and having abit of help I have started to spin.
I am pleased with what I have done so far although I do think theres too much twist but I have read that some of that will be lost when plying.
Pictures are on my blog if anyone wants to look.
Spinning is so much fun....I hope I am doing it right.
My 15 year old daughter looked at me with that look only they can give and said ' but why don't you just buy the wool?'
Youth of today...no creativity.
Heres pictures...
I am so pleased with this, the plying made all the difference. It seemed to cahange right before my eyes, it was so exciting. ( even Daughter was impressed! ).
I measured and I think I have 46.4 metres/ 50.7 yards what can I knit with that bearing in mind it is quite chunky?
I think I have caught the bug now as I have ordered another 600g of roving and another spindle. You can never have enough spindles...correct?

Very nice! Handspun is just lovely!
We've been practicing on the spindle I got from MR CB for xmas and it's quite addictive.
I'm not brave enough to skein mine so I've been letting them sit for a few days before winding them into centre pull balls. I then ply them together before winding the plied wool back into centre pull balls. Just need to get the hang of calculating the length of the finished handspun...

Wow - looks great. I haven't had a go at plying mine yet - need to spin a bit more first. You might be able to make some wristwarmers - don't know if there's enough for handwarmers.

Lovely looking handspun yarn you have there And I agree, one drop spindle is not enough, I have two, one Ashford top whorl and one Louet bottom whorl And despite having a fair bit of roving I'm about to order more

You can never have too much roving, I've discovered! I am to roving what Terri is to sock yarn (sorry Terri!)

Also discovered you can never have enough roving.
I skeined it onto my swift from the spindle after plying then washed and hung and used the ball winder to wind into a ball.
My swift is 54 inches round so I just count how many times the yarns gone round, multiply it by 54 to get total inches and use a inch - yard converter on the internet.
spinning is so much fun, I love it. Since October when I had nothing I now have 3 apindles, 2 wheels and bags of roving ...oh and a hessian bag full of raw fleece????
