DPN'sI am making some little hats for my local NICU but the patterns are so nice that i wouldn't mind making them bigger so Danny can have a few hats and i have been asked to make a few for Ian's Aunt's Grandaughter who is due to arrive any day now.
So the patterns are knit on the round which is great cos i hate sewing things up. This brings me to my problem i want to get dpns bigger then i size 3/3.5. I have fond some on get knitted ( knitpicks)but as thats in bristol and i am not due a visit there for a while. Does anyone know if larger dpns are widley available at local knitting shops?

Are you wanting metal or wooden ones. I got metal ones in size 4mm, 4.5mm and 5mm at the wool shop in Inverness, think they were prym ones.
You could always use a circ and magic loop if you know how to do that.

If you're happy with wooden ones then Gill at the Woolly Workshop has Brittany DPNs in lots of sizes, up to 12mm by the looks of it - HERE.

Thanks for the info i will take a trip down to my local craft shop and see if they have anything. Knowing they do come in larger sizes means i can at least get them to order them in.
Well unless i can convince my sister she needs to go to get knitted so i can get the knit picks ones lol.

If you don't have a problem with charity shops, they usually have loads of them. If I'm on the lookout, I take a needle sizer with me, as they're always without packets

I'm using a set of 5mm DPNs for my Feb Lady Sweater and used a set of 4mm ones recently, so they are definitely made although I didn't see any in John Lewis the last time I was in.
I got mine from Modern Knitting (the 5mm ones) but can't remember where I got the 4mm ones from

Well Jo your tip was a great one. I went to town today and went in every charity shop, and shaws. The woman in shaws didn't have a clue what i was talking about until an older lady by me filled her in.
Anyway in the last charity shop the woman bought out a huge bag of needles for me to go through. They have to keep them out the back now because they are classed as a dangerous weapon.
I found one set and there was a needles sizer in the bag too so i checked them and they were 4's, then Dh found 2 4&1/2's so i sat myelf down in a corner of the shop and tipped out the bag to find the other ones, which i did. So i got 2 sets for £2.
I did find some nice patons smoothie DK in a rainbow colour (and some other yarn in cream/brown/blue mix) that will be perfect for a hat for a baby that is due any day now. Got home and cast on and am knitting away happily now.

Great, glad you had a bargain. The Smoothie feels lovely, I wonder why it's in the CS already, as it's quite new
