Does anyone have an aran Jacket pattern with collar?I'm making Ribby Cardi from chicknits & OMG, the collar is driving me nuts. I picked up the required 80 sts & did 5.5" of 2x2 rib, only to find it's nowhere near wide enough & doesn't come round far enough at the front. (I recently did one for my 6 yr old & even that had 86sts!!)
Does anyone please have a pattern for an aran jacket with a ribbed collar that they could give me an idea of how many sts are needed to make the collar? I'm thinking Sirdar 8586 or 8421 would be good examples.
heeeeeelllllllllppppppppp!
thanks in anticipation!!

Jo I have pattern number 8586 - what size are you making? There is a choice of 24/26 28/30, 32/24, 36/38 or 40/42
If you tell me what size I will type out the collar instructions

Ali, I think most have the turtle or roll-neck option, I can't see anyone with the same problem, or maybe they just live with it
Jo, that's great the 36/38 should be about right. I've managed to pick up 94sts now to begin with, if any of them start around that figure, that will be fine. Thankyou so much

Oooh I've got both of those patterns - let me check for you.....
Pattern 8585 has 79sts picked up around the collar for a 32/34 size but then increases to 88sts and then to 103 sts in two separate increases. Does that help any?

OK Jo here are the instructions from the 36/38 pattern:
Pick up 28 sts along right side of neck, 29 sts from back of neck, 28 sts from left side of neck = 85 sts.
Next row - patt 4, inc in next st, patt 10, inc in next st, (7 times) patt 3 - 93 sts.
cont in pattern until collar measures 11cm ending with a rs row.
Next row - patt 18, m1, patt 4, m1 (14 times) patt 19 = 108 sts.
Cast off.

Jo, that's great thanks, I'll start from the 93 sts bit & inc them up at the end & see how it looks.
Thanks for looking Debs, I think I'll be OK now.
It didn't help that the pattern has the ws/rs mixed up to allow for the collar folding over so I'd already frogged half of it before I realised!
