DecorationsA couple of years ago I was given some silver grey pompoms from John Lewis for hanging on the tree, they are really pretty, very simple.
The kids could make them, they are almost weightless, and they use up lots of leftover yarn. Sock yarn for small ones and arty-farty yarn for bigger ones.
For the last couple of years I have thought I should make more, so these are on my list for this year.

oooooohhhh, I had been thinking of making felted baubles !!!! I saw some felted balls in the new IW felted mag, and thought they would make good tree decorations, and maybe needle felt patterns onto them

i made wool pompoms last year with glittery white yarn and mia made one too they looked very pretty on the tree. i have also done the cones in glitter and they come out each year too.
another idea ihave done is to buy cinnamon sticks and tie three together in a bundle with rafia and they smell gorgeous on the tree. and i have also cut oranges and lemons in slices and baked them for ages in a slow oven til they are completely dried out. i did this 4 years ago and they still smell beautiful i just poked an unbent paper clip through so i could hang them on the tree.
i love home made decos. oooh yes another thing i do is to take a photo of the decorated tree and then cut around tree shape and write the year on the back and then laminate it then i use that as a dec so i have a littel collection of past year trees on my new tree each christmas.
and finally i get dd and ds to choose anew dec each year and then they each have their own dec box so that whenthey leave home they will have a collection of decorations fortheir own trees.

If you use suitable yarn, felted pom poms look great, but put them in a pillowcase for the felting bit -just in case

I love making my own decorations, mostly using cross stitch and every year I take part in a big exchange on a stitching board. As a result, I have a big storage box of things to put on my tree.
I need to get moving with some new ones for this year - all the stitching magazines are starting to feature christmas designs

Years ago my mum got a bauble from a craft fair that was a blown egg, sprayed with metallic paint and silver thread crocheted round and used as a hanging loop. would be easy to do, the faffy bit would be blowing the egg. we have had the decoration for 20 yrs so they last.

Some years I take part in the same exchange as Paula so don't have quite so many to hang on my Tree but I do have lots of beaded Snowflakes for it because I love making them

Every year I mean to make decorations but then I end up having a wedding or something to organise and I don;t get around to it. I did make a couple of patchwork stars one year though
and this little aran stocking:
I really want to make some Alan Dart Gnomes too!

I bought a pom pom maker a couple of weeks ago (one of the Clover ones) and am busy making for the tree. Like the idea of felted ones - presumably they go little and stiff?

They're great fun Snail - I've been doing a few an evening, they mount up quite quickly! It'll be a pom-pom christmas in my house.

Pom-tastic
My felted poms came out as solid balls which you can then sew or stick sparkly bits on- and they don't break when the dog runs head first into the tree

I now have got a pom pom maker to
Perhaps when we all get together at the pub we should make pom poms instead of knitting
