December SK

My sub arrived this morning. I love the Cabled cardi & the Sirdar jacket looks far nicer around the neckline than on the Sirdar leaflet, might have to try it now   Very Happy   They've updated the mag, which, apart from a decent photo of the editor, looks pretty much the same  Confused

I thought it looked the same too Jo Laughing

None of the patterns really appeal to me apart from the scarves which are nice.

I do like the free gift though - a 2009 diary which I will actually use I think Very Happy

I think this issue is my last one for my sub. I liked the DB jacket (already have the pattern). And the diary is lovely too. But didn't you think there were fewer patterns this month and it felt thinner to me Confused

Ali, I deffo agree, but I'd literally just been looking through last months when the new one arrived, I think the paper is thinner (ie cheaper) !

Ah maybe!!

The magazine is physically smaller - about the same size as "Knitting" is now! One or two quite nice patterns in it though.

I wasn't impressed with this month at all, the paper is of a poorer quality than usual, none of the patterns appealed.

My MIL usually subs me this for xmas, but I am going to swop it for yarn forward I think as I have to go into town for YF and I am getting fed up with SK.

it looks like all the magazines are going to £4.50 a month now -i wonder how long it will be until knitting follows suit.
i'm  dropping sk and let's knit and just keeping yarn forward, interweave and knitting. i was getting too many every month anyway, but i do love it when they drop on the doormat  Wink

How long before there are no patterns in the magazine  Shocked   I thought it was just me who thought it was thinner and had less patterns  Confused   If they keep this up they won't be around for much longer   Rolling Eyes

I looked at several mags in Tesco yesterday, but didn't buy any.  I don't have any subs, and have so many free paterns faved in Ravelry, I don't think I'll need to buy any in the near future.

Though I haven't seen this one yet, sadly it is the way things are going with mags,  DH works for a magazine company (not that they do any knitting titles  Sad ) and the powers that be have cut the quality of the paper which none of the editors are happy about, but they have been told that they have to accept it, or have less budget to commission articles, pay contributors etc, which would of course mean even less in the mags.

I'm not condoning it, just explaining what I've been told - apparently magazine circulation numbers are dropping, advertisers are pulling out and things are generally getting more difficult -  recession and all that  Rolling Eyes

I realised the 2 f the main patterns in this months SK are from books I already own, I dont like the slimmed down version and that many things are now going to be web-based instead of in the mag itself. What about all the people who dont go on the internet etc?

It just seems that I am not getting much for my money from most of the mags now so I have cancelled all my subs except IK and YF.

Thinking of dropping my sub for Yarn Forward.

Is it worth it do you think?

My inlaws always sub me a mag for xmas.
