Crocheted Granny Square Cardi/JacketI was having lunch in the library cafe last Saturday before work and saw this little girl wearing one of these and it was so cute. But I just assumed it was bought - TILL I was going out and there was her Mum in an identical one AND with a booga bag. I should have gone up to her and asked but I was late for work so ........ has anyone seen such a pattern anywhere?? I don't crochet yet so have only got 2 beginners books and I've scoured my mags with no luck but if anyone has seen one I'd be grateful for any info thanks

Anything like this one?

I'll confess to following a woman in town for ages the other day. I'm sure she was wearing something in Colinette and I was trying to work out which yarn and if I knew the pattern!

Thanks Claire. It was a bit like that - bit shorter and more fitted but maybe I could alter that - no idea yet how you do that with crochet
I do the same - I think one day it will get me into trouble - staring closely at people's clothes

There was a granny square jacket in the last Interweave Crochet - can't find the link at the mo - but sounds a bit more what you're after!
Or you could make one up for yourself.....

Would it be easy to make it up yourself then?? I saw the Interweave one which is lovely but is made in Lorna's Laces Helens Lace at the cost of £90+ Maybe I could sub with something cheaper - I was just thinking of some cotton really.

Should be easier enough to do yourself because it's always going to be quite a boxy shape because of being made from squares!
But if you like the one from Interweave I'd look at subbing a different yarn - that's what I'm planning to do or take the measurements and shape and mimic it with squares/yarn of your choice (even if you end up with more or less squares depending on the tension).
I was planning to tackle it after Christmas as part of my stashalong. I'll give you a shout when I'm ready to start and if you can hook up too if you're interested!

Hoorah! Glad you're sorted - it looks fab, might have closer look myself.
I taught myself to crochet and didn't have any problems - there are several good books about... I particularly like Simple Crochet by Erika Knight.
I'm sure there'll be plenty of advice if you get stuck!

That's a really lovely pattern.
I have the readers digest complete stitching, knitting and crochet (or something like that lol) and it shows you how to construct a tanktop....might just have to get my hooks out now crimbo knitting is nearly done lol

This is the bit that's going to end up as a bag lol
I know that the best way to make an afghan is to make the squares separately and sew them up afterwards rather than join as you go...you live and learn (thought this was the easy option but it just isn't portable!)
Although, after seeing the cardigan in this thread...i'm wondering about repeating the above rectangle...and deciphering some sort of tank top out of it...do i give this idea some thought? :::rubs chin::: hmmmm...lol

I don't see why you couldn't convert it into a cardi or tank top. The IW one is just a series of squares sewn together.

it just seems to me....that to end up as a bag is a bit of a waste.
I really like the colour combo too (denim blue, walnut brown and amethyst) and i know i would wear these colours....looks like i have got me something to do that may just end up unique!!!!!
