Crochet Week March 18th-25thCrochet Week will soon be upon us. Please post here to show how you are participating. Are you going to learn to crochet, teach someone to crochet, pick up a hook after a long respite (I think it must be 30 years since I last wielded a hook in earnest) or maybe crochet for charity?
I can't find an official Crochet Week link, so if you come across one please post that too.

Haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do, but I have the Happy Hooker all ready for action! I can crochet a little, so might attempt to actually make "something"

I've got the happy hooker too, and a twilleys crochet teaching book, and I still can't do it
I just need to sit down and persevere, cos I could crochet granny squares when I was small, I just need to remember how

All being well, I intend to work exclusively on my sampler blanket. I've been so taken with knitting socks lately, I've neglected the old crochet.

Oooh, nice necklace!
I shall either carry on with my granny scrap blanket, or make a small shawl/scarf I've got my eye on.

Mine's just a big granny square that I keep going round and round on! Takes away the pain of crocheting all the squares together!!! I had a whole bag of cotton glace in pinks and purples, but not enough to make anything with (iyswim). I started it last summer, but haven't really put any effort into it - 'bout time I did, it's supposed to be a picnic blanket to leave at the caravan when it opens in two weeks time!!

I have a blanket just like that, it's just over 5foot across (although not in cotton - just cheapo acrylic)
It got HEAVY towards the end and i hated working on it cos it took so long to grow after about 3foot I love it now though, it looks fabby!
Good luck with yours
I'm going to make my friend's daughter a blanket mile-a-minute stylee, i love them SO much and i'll try and start another blanket for my neice too I'm with n, i've got caught up in sock knitting and neglected my crochet. I might try and teach my little neice to crochet too, she's been learning to knit from Granny and she's picked that up well so we should do OK

My LYS has this fab dvd in stock. I'm going to invest in one - it seems very reasonably priced.

Crochet week starts on Sunday - are your hooks at the ready?
I crocheted in the 70s and I am afraid what happened in the 70s will stay in the 70s for me - but I hope you all enjoy your crocheting experience

I'm raring to go!

I'm going to finish the crochet jacket I posted as a UFO and start doing some granny squares - I seen a few afghans made with granny squares on different blogs wich have inspired me and I have a bag of Rowan Handknit Cotton in various colours can use.

Progress? How is everyone's crocheting goodness coming along?
I've completed another two squares of my Stitch Sampler Blanket, and I'll probably pop photos on my blog tomorrow.
It's actually a learn-to-crochet afghan, but I don't call it that since I've been hooking for 35 years!

I have done one small teddy bear (just got to be stuffed) and now I'm doing a bigger one Hopefully I will have two finished ones at the end of the week!

Well I had a little play with some cotton and a hook last night, and ended up with something vaguely resembling a circle!!!! The thing that I'm finding hard is the difference between the UK and USA terms, but I guess I'll get that eventually. I would really like to make one of the jumpers out of happy hooker for the summer, so I hope I can master it!

I have to say really us terms seem to make the most sense to me...I think it's because they start with a single, then a double....etc....we seem to be one ahead lol
Noo...I set up a colour key for a my patterns...all my dc's (uk)/sc's (us) are red...all the trebles and equivalents are blue etc.
i just copy the patterns into word and doctor them...then i just look at the colours....i find it helpful, not sure if others would but anyway, it's just an idea

Now that is a clever idea Linz............

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of all the creations.
I seem to recall that the UK terms originally came from the number of loops on the hook after drawing through the stitch; e.g., a DC is made by pulling up the yarn, then yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops. Then crochet got more complicated....
I much prefer the US terminology because it's more intuitive, in my opinion, especially given all the variations there are on these basic stitches.
That colour key is a good idea.
