Crochet patterns?? Rubbish choices!!I'm off on a rant this evening.... I've been searching all day for a crochet pattern that I
a) like! and
b) can tackle
but to be quite honest the choice is limited. I think if ever I came back as a knitwear designer I'd design some patterns for crochet! I felt like this about machine knitting patterns back in my early days of machine knitting, so maybe maybe it's time for me to start fiddling about and creating patterns that I like for myself, a bit like Jobo does on Sweater Wizard
Can Sweater Wizard cope with crochet? Or is it for knitting only?

I had a look this afternoon Debs cos of what you said but it looks like it's only knitting - as far as I can see but Jo might correct me on that!!

No help on sweater wizard but totally agree about crochet patterns or lack of decent ones.
Have you looked on Lion Brand they have the odd or two that are OK - depends on what you are looking for?
Or Purplelinda has about the most comprehensive choice (Murdo pointed me to them a while ago)

I've just found a site that's based in the States and I *think* they ship to the UK.... I like a few of the Oat Couture patterns although I think they may be a bit too advanced for me!

I know the Yarn Grove sell Oat Couture patterns and they ship to the UK - think you might need to email maybe though? They only have 2 crochet patterns though Yarn Grove .

PS Have you looked through the Interweave store Debs? Interweave crochet often has lovely things - I often look in Twistfibre and regret I can't crochet

Diannes has some crochet patterns too, click on 'crochet' on the left hand side of the home page and then scroll down, most of the patterns seem a bit dated though.
Drops do crochet patterns too, I have made one and have a couple more in my queue, you can specify srochet only when searching their patterns, the one I made looked very similar to a top DD had seen in next.

Sweater Wizard doesnt really cater for crochet patterns, which is a pity - tbh I never thought about it before, but now I reckon a SW crochet version would be fantastic
I think stylish crochet patterns are definitely harder to come by than knitting patterns
I was going to suggest the Drops site as well - they seem to go in for crochet quite a lot

Must say I like quite a few of the patterns in Inside Crochet magazine. This from someone who has never much liked crochet patterns in the past.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I think I spent almost all day yesterday looking for that certain 'something' - I think I've been spoiled with the Chevron Lace Cardigan !!
I DO like one of the Drops patterns that I decided to work just before I went on holiday but I need to buy the yarn for it, or substitute . I'm thinking of buying the Interweave Crochet mags as well as there are some lovely things in there, as well as a couple of Doris Chan designs/books.
It just seems that there are so few crochet patterns that have the Kim Hargreaves-style or panache iyswim and I've got a bee in my bonnet about that pattern at the yarn shop that I'm never going to track down but I bet if I did get it I wouldn't even use it!

I think I've just found the answer to my problems regarding the lack of crochet patterns I found that GK have a few issues of Interweave Crochet in the sale so I went onto Ravelry to find out what was in them before ordering. I found LOADS of patterns that are really lovely - but probably beyond my capabilities at present - and they are downloadable from the IK website!
I'm thrilled to bits as there are a few that I queued in Rav. I'll save my money in buying mags and buy patterns in PDF form I think. Better for the planet too!
I think Pictish pointed out the IK crochet mags, so thanks Ali, you don't know what you've let loose, you really don't!

That's good, but if your first cardi is anything to go by, I doubt they are beyond your abilities.
