Chicknits Ribby Cardi KALSome of us have been getting the pattern for this which you can see and buy here . It has various versions some of which you can see in the Gallery and is knitted in aran weight. I'm doing the one that is ribbed throughout with a collar like the brown one. I am doing mine in DB Cashmerino Aran in a pale pink and have cast on and so far done about 4" .

I'm in!!!!! Can't decide between either magenta donegal tweed, or black shetland aran Going to finish the front of the cardi I'm working on first though and then probably cast on before the weekend. I think I'll do the one ribbed throughout too, rather than the plain front
pictish
Black shetland would be nice
Now there's Debs and Jo and Claire are doing it as well I think
terri
I'll have to start hunting for somewhere to buy a two way zip
melody yarns
You don't need a two way zip though Terri - a one way open-ended one will do!
terri
yeah I know, but a nice metal two way zip with a nice togley bit would make it look better yes???
melody yarns
Oh definitely!!
terri
Actually, I've a nice Gap cardi which has just about been worn to death, maybe I could steal the zipper from there before it goes in the bin.......Mmmmmmm
Wildpurl
Well, I'm in, but I do have a couple of other WIPs to finish first, so I may not be starting right away.
I'm going to do the same style as pictish I think, and I haven't decided what colour yet, but I'm leaning towards a charcoal Kilcarra Tweed.
melody yarns
I'm in on this one - although I need to get a fair few WIPs finished in time for the warm weather, whenever it decides to appear!
pictish
I'm making this for the summer given what it's been like so far.

I would really like to knit this one as well. I really need to wait for a while as can't get any more yarn at the moment. Will put this one on hold for a while.

I'm in for a Ribby-Zippy cardi KAL but I might make the Zhivago one. I'll see what my Zhivago yarn is like when it arrives from Kemps. They're usually pretty quick, so I should know by the start of next week!
Claire

Yes Kemps usually deliver within a couple of days - they are good

Jo028
I'm in too. I want to do the Zhivago one aswell, I really need to get this ribby thing out of my system!
LOL at Terri re-using the zip, I'd snip the GAP label & sew that in too!
pictish
It's a brilliant idea

I've definitely got enough Patons Diploma Gold aran in plum to knit this for the autumn/winter, and enough Wendy Cotton Aran to knit this for the summer/autumn.
I'm going to use my navy Jaeger merino aran to knit a cardigan in one of the Jaeger books instead. I think I'll be happier with the colour choice that way round.
pictish
So are you doing one in the cotton now Debs?
melody yarns
I need to send John back up into the loft to get another stash bag down as my Cotton aran is in there He'll be up there tonight, make no mistake about that!
Actually, I have more than enough cotton aran to sink a small island so I should find a colour I'm happy with.
I was half thinking about a white ribby with lime green stripes on the welts, sleeve ribs and collar, but then that might be too 'in yer face' so I might plump for a navy-plummy colour I have, or even bright blue
If I start now though, it means that I'll have three 'summer' things on the go so I really need to start completing some or it will be October
pictish
I like the sound of the white and gren one You could just have the edge in green tho - if you thought stripes were too much - bit Sarah Dallas like
pictish
Anybody knitting this apart from me??? I'm doing one in DB Cashmerino Aran in a pale pink - started doing it ribby all over but have frogged a bit to make it just ribby at the sides.
mogiebear
I've done the back and 1 front of the chicknits one , in Sirdar Aran tweed in Corn. Used the pale colour so I could see my knitting while camping, but I'm not sure now about the colour or the yarn
pictish
Oh no It sounds a nice colour tho. I've just frogged mine and started again cos it looked a bit on the small side.
terri
I still want to do the chicknits one too!!!!! Just need to finish a few wips off first
gilraen
I'm doing a Debbie bliss Rib and Cable Cardigan in Cashmerino DK instead. I've got both yarn and pattern and I'm trying to use up rather than buy new at the moment. My cot is too full and I cannot buy more until it is less full That's my rule
The pattern for this KAL is georgous though
pictish
I'm doing that one too gilraen in green You can do it as part of this KAL then
Glad you're still in terri
gilraen

Oh happy days!! Thanks. Here's 3/4 of the back done

Oooh yours is green too I'm just up to there as well

I have the navy plum yarn down from the Yarn Storage Area (loft) and it's sitting in the guest wardrobe at the mo.
I had a bit of a tantrum with knitting this week and have been sewing stuff up, as I don't know what to cast on for next It's all this unsettled-ness, it's affecting everything!!
I like Gilraen's idea of 'if the cot is full'..... the guest wardrobe will fall apart if I try to shove any more stuff in it!

can I just ask....is the twisted rib at the back part of the actual pattern?
It's looks very nice.
gilraen
Yes Linz it's called a Rib and Cable cardigan and the Cable very cleverly nips the rib in at the waist!

So is this the same pattern as the blue/brown one on the website?...It just shows the front you see...

No this is Debbie Bliss's from Special Family Knits

Oh well I was looking at the wrong one then lol

I've only just found this thread & LOVE this cardigan. But I'm not sure which book it's in as I've found two with the same name but different covers; one with a little girl & another a woman. Are they different print runs?

The one I'm doing blue is the Chicknits one here and gilraen and me are both doing the green DB one which is in Special Family Knits a hardback book here

Thanks Ali. It's the DB pattern that I love. On the Laughing Hens site the book has a girl on the front cover but on the search engine that I always use to find books as cheap as possible there are two different books with the same name but different sub titles & different covers. Hence my confusion

I think she might have 2 books called that - one just a paperback pattern book for about £7 then this one for £20.

She's got two books of the same name both published this year & another published in 1998 No wonder I'm confused. I can't afford the book at the moment & want to lose weight first anyway but it's in my queue

It's a lovely knit too. I've got side tracked with my Wollmeise wrap and vogue scarf and bags and socks but I'm beginning to itch to get back on track!
If you don't have it by the time I'm finished I could lend you the book?

That'll be great Gilraen but it'll be a while. I think it'll take about a year for me to get to the size I want to be but it's happening so I've started on my way.
I'm really enjoying Ravelry at the moment as I've got most of my stash yarns on there & am having fun chosing projects that I don't normally consider 'for when I get to my target weight'. All allocated to stash yarn that has been waiting patiently & not dipped into for smaller projects. Another bonus of getting down to a smaller size is that I might be able to get two garments out of the yarn. What would you do with 1kg of RYC Cashsoft DK for example? Or 1kg of Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool??? I'm having fun

Good for you!! Rav is great for planning things like that too.

Ali, that blue is lovely, how are you finding the Elann yarn? They've got some discontinued colours on sale & they just happened to have the grape I was lusting after, so I had to have some
gilraen
Ali that is a georgeous colour!! what does the heather look like?
murdo
Wow!! They are both gorgeous patterns. Does the cheaper DB paperback have the pattern in it or only her hardback? If so I will go for cheaper chickknits download!
edit: there is more than one paperback with a similar name...which one has the pattern!

Withregrads zips...look at these. I have a lime green one on a lime green cardi...bling!

Sorry not to get back sooner - been away for a couple of days.
Jo the Elann wool is ok - not the most brilliant wool in the world but even at full price it's only £1 a ball and pure wool. I think the surface postage was £5 and took about 6 weeks.
Gilraen the Nutmeh Heather is brown but not especially flecky
And Jackie you need the £20 book for the green DB one unfortunately.

Oh it IS lovely!!! Keep going - you're almost there

Gilraen, that's looking gorgeous. Did you get bored with the ribs? I love ribby cardis, but don't enjoy making them!
gilraen
No not at all. I really love doing them. They knit up very quickly and keep my hands from getting bored with straight knit or purl.
pictish
Is anybody else doing the Chicknits one?? I'm really enjoying the pattern - it's very well written - and have come to really like the wool I have plans for a brown totally ribby one when this is finished This one is exactly like the pattern - duck egg blue body and light brown sleeves with plain panels at the front/back and ribbed sides as here
Am almost finished the back.

I finished mine last week. See it's gone from my siggy! Been wearing it all week - unfortunatelly ds has just got purple smoothie on the sleeve

Here is the modelled shot. It looks better on the hanger! If I had it to do again I would make the bit below the waist cables longer, much more slimming

Oh no can't see it

I can see it It looks lovely on as well - fabulous knitting

I DO like it!!!
pictish

Oh no I disagree - I think it looks FABULOUS!!!
gilraen

Thank you. I love it too. I just think it looks better on the hanger than on me, but if the body was a little longer below the cables it would be perfect, even on me!
Jo028

yep, I like it too I might add it to the list, I'm still in my rib phase!
