ChicknitalongThis is a new KAL for any Chicknits pattern as we were discussing in Knitter Knatter.
I am probably going to do Twist with a collar in black or red Jaeger MM Aran or maybe the Basic Chic Hoodie with cables and collar as modded on Bonne Marie's blog. Lots of examples of the patterns on Rav for you to see. This is one of my faves of Twist with a collar here .

Twist is gorgeous, love the one you linked to
I'm signing up for the Basic Chic Hoodie first, I think, in ASC.

Oh yes meant to say on the other thread DC that sounds lovely

I like the basic chic, and I like the idea of doing it with the cables and collar. But, and it might just be the residue of jet lag, but I can't see the mods in any of the blog entries for November
I think it'll be a little while before I get round to this anyway

I'm in, although it may be some time before I can actually start. I have my BdF Cable sweater to finish first, and then I had thought of doing a CPH, but I might try the basic Chic Hoodie instead. I also fancy an Ariann.

Well some of these are on my to-do....but they're in a long line.

I'm in. But again, not for a while I might abandon the idea of Twist & Shout (also not yet started) and do this instead, but need to get a couple of other things off the needles first.
Cassidy is my choice, as yet undecided about hood versus collar though
|
pictish
|
Is there a collar version with Cassidy too???
|
loobyj
|
Thank you Murdo - somehow I'd missed that when I looked back through October's entries (still the memory of paddling this time last week makes it worth looking like a right numpty here ).
Poo, FC, I'd forgotten about TnS - and I've got the yarn right handy for that. P'raps I'll just get the pattern for this as well and then decide. In a darkened room.

Not an official one that I know of, but some people on Rav have done collars instead I'm sure. It shouldn't be too difficult to improvise one I'd have thought.
Oh poo indeed Loobyj, I've looked again at Twist and Shout and now I don't know either I like the darkened room idea, but that's just me, not necessarily for pattern choice
We could do both .....? Or is that just crazy talk? And actually we both have to get the Sirdar one finished too. I'm going to concentrate on that first and then decide, so perhaps start one or t'other in the New Year. (Perhaps .... )
|
loobyj
|
I find darkened rooms very theraputic
I don't think it's too crazy to do both TnS and this one. But, we do have to get the Sirdar hoodie finished. Mine's been OTN since the beginning of February and I could do without having to buy it a birthday card
I'll have a binge on it over Christmas and catch up with this in the New Year (or TnS).

not that I want to throw a spanner into the works but aren't we due the winter Knitty in the very near future? That might scupper all my provisional knitting plans

I'm reviving this KAL 'cos I've just cast on Twist I'm using Cascade 220 in a dark brown, only done the ribbing so far so nothing really to show yet.
Anyone else planning a Chicknits knit ....?

I like the new Mondo jacket that's out... I must admit I was a bit jaded about ChicKnits patterns when I asked a quesstion about the Ribby Cardi and a hood for it on the Rav forum and I never got an answer
But I have the pattern for the Eyelet cardigan printed out and I bought the Blueberry pure wool DK on holiday for it. Now I've got home I think I'd prefer it in black merino DK instead so I'll have to go on a rummage.
And it's top down too!!

Ooooh I'm planning a brown Twist as well FC!! Not just at the moment but soon-ish And I love the Mondo jumper as well I think I have more patterns in mind for this winter than I can possibly knit - nothing new there then

Me too! At least 3 things from IK, and I'm impatiently waiting for Knotions to go live tomorrow so I can properly see what's there, and I intend to make Cassidy too Will need a bigger wardrobe ... well, unlikely I guess, because there's no way I'll knit them all and manage to have any semblence of a life
So, that's 3 of us back in this, potentially, and I know of at least one other person that might join in. Hurrah! I'm off to look at Mondo, that one's slipped under my radar and I've not heard of it

You cheeky so-and-so! Yeah. I thought I'd give this non-acrylic yarn lark a try, see if I like it
What's the brown yarn you're going to use for your Twist? If it's Stylecraft aran I shall fall over laughing
|
pictish
|
It's some bargainous Jaeger aran from stash Well that is the plan but you know how these things go
I do fancy making something in the Stylecraft tho - I just don't have anywhere nearby that sells it for some reason And I really fancy trying Cascade - it always looks so gorgous knitted up
|

|
LOL @ FC and Ali
I've got some of the Stylecraft Life aran in brown, it's lovely
I'm signing up (again) hopefully for Cassidy in black aran. I also want to make the Miss BB cardi coming out on the 30th, and the Basic Chic Hoodie ...
|
FatCat
|
Ah, well the only shops that I can walk to that sell yarn only have acrylic and acrylic mixes, hence me using a lot of Stylecraft and Sirdar Bonus Your Jaeger aran sounds very nice! Are you planning on doing the hood? I'm just going to do the collar on mine.
Hey, DC, another one joining in - hurrah! I've just been looking at the Miss BB too, it's really nice isn't it Black aran though, that's brave! I'm already having issues with working in dark brown once it gets dark in the evening I need to get it finished before the clocks go back otherwise I'll be in real trouble with it

Well I squidged some Stylecraft aran in 400g balls on holiday and I thought it was Life Aran; turns out though that Life doesn't come in 400g balls after all (I don't think anyway) so it must have been Special aran. It was sooooo soft it was really lovely!!
|
pictish
|
The collar I think FC!!! This time
Terri sent me some Stylecraft aran once - a little sample - and I liked it. I like the Sirdar Bonus too - lovely and soft But I got loads of Jaeger for about £1 a ball from Jannette about 18 months ago and I really must use it up It's ideal for Chicknits patterns but sometimes I hanker after a heathery look which you can get in the Stylecraft You see no matter what you have, you always fancy something else
|

£1 a ball??? Sheer bargain!!
I know, this is the thing about stash innit - you always want what there isn't in stash I mean 'you' generally here, not you yourself Ali

I couldn't not get it at that price could I but I haven't used any yet so I need to start knitting it up starting with Twist!!

I've got some Jaeger Matchmaker aran but it's too nice to knit into anything A classic 'treasure' yarn if ever there was one
|

That's what it was Debs!! I want it to be something special in a way cos it is so lovely - so keep waiting for the right project
|

Oh I know what you mean Ali - a lot of my yarns are like that so I end up buying more yarn to actually knit stuff in
|
FatCat
|
Crikey, £1 a ball for Jaeger? That's less than I pay for Hayfield Bonus. That truly is bargainous. I also have yarns that are treasure, waiting for the right project
I did the first pattern repeat on Twist last night, here's a quick progress pic. Sorry it's squished up - short needles - so I can only show you one of the two cable panels. And it's a darker brown than I've been able to capture ... lol, not the best photo all in all then! I'm liking how it looks IRL though
|
pictish
|
Ooooh lovely FC - the cables look gorgeous in the Cascade!! What a great colour!!!
In fact I have just ordered some as I had a birthday voucher for First4yarns and had been looking at the Cascade as a possibility. I'm thinking of using it for the Minimalist cardi tho.

Cascade looks wonderful doesn't it? I was taking a squizz at some Cascade on GK website last night after spotting a pattern I quite fancy from Cosmicpluto - the Monday morning cardigan. Cascade seems very good value for money! I shall have to investigate further methinks

It's a lovely pattern isn't it - I fancy that too

Did somebody call
I cast on Twist just before the weekend - started with a sleeve which I've nearly finished. Really like the cable pattern - found it very easy to memorise, which always makes for better knitting
I'm using Stylecraft Special in Charcoal - which is slightly heathery. And nice and squashy too. Definitely a colour for knitting with in good light though.

Thank you! I'm very happy with how it's coming along
| loobyj wrote: | Did somebody call |
ah yes, that would have been me But I didn't name names in case you wanted to be a Billy no mates with your knitting and not join in I think I used the Charcoal for my Louisa sweater, it's very nice! I'm finding the cable pattern easy to memorise now too, and I'm managing it very nicely without a cable needle too
Ooh Ali, what colour Cascade have you ordered? And Debs, if you do decide to order from GK it might be worth calling them first to see what they've actually got in stock. I got mine from them. I wanted 6 skeins for this and the brown is actually my sixth colour choice because with my first five they didn't have six skeins either at all or in the same dyelot (My first choices were the blacks and dark greys and dark greens.) Mind you, they were very quick to come back to me about it, and even with lots of to-ing and fro-ing by email they still got my order out in a couple of days

I have ordered Straw Heather (a sort of pale gold/camel shade) - I almost went for a chocolate brown

I'm out cos I was in at the early stages & made my 2 chicknits knits in the last year . Twist is a lovely pattern, the hood is very pointy though Stylecraft special aran is lovley, it washes & wears really well

They do?
*goes off to look at the pattern*
Crikey, you're right! I hadn't noticed I just followed the pattern instructions I guess it doesn't really matter though. I did think about cabling one way on one panel and the other way on the other, to make it symmetrical, but then decided I couldn't be arsed

That often happens with photography for some strange reason. I think it's something to do with the printing process.
This KAL is going to be lovely to follow.

Just wondering if anyone is in this?? I started a Chicknits Basic Hoodie but didn't get very far (it's not totally abandoned though!!), I frogged my Ribby Cardi as it came out too small, but I do fancy starting a Twist sometime.
FC have you done any more on your Twist? What do you think of the pattern? It does look lovely knitted up on Rav - with collar and without
|
FatCat
|
I'm still in. Well, what I mean by that is that I still have Twist OTN somewhere ... got halfway up the back and put it down to work on some socks and, two months or so later , haven't found the enthusiasm to pick it back up again And I really must, otherwise before I know it it'll be next year and too warm to wear it! Which'd be a shame, especially as for once I paid out for some Quality Yarn for it
So I shall consider this a much-needed kick up the backside, thank you Mistress Pictish!
So, you going to stick with the Basic Hoodie or go for a Twist? LOL, Stick or Twist?
|
pictish
|
Well I really should finish the Basic Hoodie first shouldn't I but it's top down so have to be in a topdown mood IYKWIM I might dig it out and have a look
I think you should get Twist out again - I was looking at it on Rav and it looks very squishy in the Cascade and a beautiful colour I'm definitely going for a brown one too!!
|
FatCat
|
Nah you don't! Show me where it says you have to finish something before starting something else!
Go on, cast on Twist. It's completely different construction - bottom up and in pieces - so perfect for when you don't fancy working on top-down You can definitely have both on the go at the same time
and yeah, OK, I'll dig mine out again when I next have enough time to work out where I've got to on it and to remind myself of the pattern
|
pictish
|
I'll do both!! Just dug out the Basic Hoodie and have only done about 6 rows BUT it's a lovely colour (camel - in fact the very yarn and shade used in the original pattern) so will carry on with it. Just realised it isn't shaped - I wonder if that's the same with Twist?? It will be nice and snuggly for winter so I need to get a move on
I'll cast on for Twist later I think I'm going to use Jaeger MM Aran in Mole(a sort of milk chocolate brown ) from stash.
|
FatCat
|
Go girl! Doing both sounds like a fine plan to me
| pictish wrote: | I'll cast on for Twist later I think |
Is that later today ....? Or just a unspecific "later"? Twist has waist shaping, so it's even more of a different knit to the Basic Hoodie Your yarn sounds lovely!
|
pictish
|
Could be - if the mood takes me
I might add waist shaping to the Chic Basic when I get there - not sure as it requires thought!! At least I'd scribbled on the pattern where I'd got to
Piccie later!!

Your Twist yarn sound lovely Ali
I'm still going Am just doing the last sleeve on Twist Really want to have it finished for going away next weekend. And with perseverance and no chickening out of sewing up it should be achievable
It's a good pattern - I've really enjoyed making it, cables are interesting without giving brain ache.
Can't decide if I want to do basic hoodie or Cassidy next. I've got the yarn for both And then I'm tempted by the ribby cardi too. I've got the yarn for that, but no pattern yet.

I have the Mondo Cable Pulli pattern printed out, and the Miss BB. I am thinking of starting the pulli fairly soon and probably using the Colinette Skye I have squirreled away in my stash Almost don't want to use it since they discontinued Skye but I think it might work OK for this pattern.
I assume I could just carry the yarn down the inside of the piece if I wanted to do the "invisible striping"? Am a bit wary of not striping it as the skeins can vary quite a bit plus I'd like to avoid obvious pooling.
|
pictish
|
Wow Lj!!! You go girl!!! You can do it
DC if you stripe every 2 rows it shouldn't be a problem carry it up the side - that would be the east noticeable place to do it.

Quick progress update
Not much done on the sleeve this weekend so far - the bp monitor made it hard to bend my arm enough to knit. But I've sewed up the shoulder seams and side seams
Think finishing it by Friday evening is just about achievable
