Cherry Tree Hill

Has anyone else used this? I'm sure you have. The thing is I've just ruined a perfectly good skein of yarn and I'm furious with myself.

The yarn came with four "ties" in place around it. Each tie has produced 8 ends of yarn,  Confused  Evil or Very Mad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad so it's completely unuseable for socks. It's also proving extremely difficult to wind off the swift like this.

Should I have paid more care? Is this normal for CTH? I've unwound countless skeins into balls, usually I can identify which of the ties are holding ties and which is the skein ends, but not with this skein.

It's a silly error from which I expect I shall learn, but I just though I'd better warn everyone.

Could it on the other hand be a faulty skein? I've no experience with this yarn so I simply don't know.

Joy I've had knots in skeins of sock yarn and I just knit double for 3 st where I'm joining and you can hardly tell - a bit fiddly but it can be done. Maybe with lace it would be more problematic. So all is not necessarily lost. You will have to maybe wind manually tho Confused

But I know what you mean about ends - I don't know about the particular skein you got but I am always worried I'll snip the wrong bit so I now always try to untie the knots when I'm winding any skein rather than cutting anything just in case Confused

I'm using the merino lace for a shawl at the moment, lovely to knit with, but I got it from someone else destashing on another forum so it was prewound.

If you end up with smaller balls, you could spit splice them together to make bigger balls, though it might change the pattern of the yarn.

Well I'm really upset. I untied each knotted tie by hand, and each one produced two working lengths of yarn.

I know I could spit spice them or join them, but really that's not the point.  I've just given up trying to wind the skein into balls and both yarn and swift have found their ways to the opposite side of the room Shocked

I really wanted to use this yarn for a specific pair of socks too Sad

I haven't knitted a stitch since Monday. I want to make a start on practicing for the TDF KAL but haven't the interest or the inclination to do so. Yarn I ordered for the TDF hasn't arrived anyway - I know it starts tomorrow but I like to be organised with what I'm using, and also I'd like to have a back-up if what I've ordered isn't quite what I wanted. So I thought I'd wind this yarn instead and cheer myself up............

I'm feeling very grumpy - can you tell Wink

Well if you DID untie then you had four separate ends Confused I don't think that's right in 1 ball Evil or Very Mad

Did you get it from Alice Joy?? Cos one of the 2 hanks of CTH I got in the sale I had to return as it wasn't dyed properly and Alice swapped it for something else - the other hank wasn't especially brilliant either but I kept that cos I didn't want to return both hanks Confused Maybe there was a problem with a batch of CTH?

Hmm yes, I bought it at the same time as the Sheldridge Farm.

I'm going to go and see if I can find something else to unwind to cheer me up. That's if the swift's still in one piece.............

The CTH has only made me feel even more grumpy.

Right, it sounds as though Nadal has kicked off now, so I'm going again. Go Nadal!

Just popped back in to say Nadal is a tennis genius. Three games into the first set and he looks magnificent Very Happy
